Most would argue that Art is not a math problem (but, I suppose that's up to your personal definition of art). Regardless, to accurately judge the quality of art, there is a requirement that you view the piece as a whole. Looking at "most" of a piece does shit for one's perspective; and perspective is a necessity when it comes to art.

Think of it like this: if a movie has a great opening, a decent body, and a shitty ending; would you call that movie great? No, you would call it mediocre -- at best.

ME 3 is still great . When you have a 10 question math quiz and botch only the last problem, you'll still remain with a 90 % .

@Akage - what I findmost strange about all the people now claiming ME3 as GOTY material is that I didn't even enjoy the rest of the game all that much. From start to finish I felt that most of the time they were mishandling the story and the characters, and though the combat was improved most of the cool RPG elements and the sheer variety of choice had been stripped back so much, and a lot of the Renegade/Paragon choices felt thrown in and didn't make much sense or have any real consequence. Sure, a lot of stuff it gets right and is awesome, but far too many flaws other than that ending to ignore.

I call bullshit on that. Try to make that same argument in-regards to a movie; you can't. No reasonably discerning person would be willing ignore a terrible ending of a movie and still call it a great movie.

In addition, the great quality of the rest of the game only compounds the issue further. There is no excuse for a good developing team to slap something that bad onto a game. Hell, giving such praise to fucktard game developers is the freaking reason that we get such shitty endings to our modern games.
