Comment by Travis Rentz on January 12, 2013 at 10:11am Kevin never got to play downloadable games? Hmm, guess he never found the time.
Comment by Jer G. Gernault on January 12, 2013 at 8:07am the game of thrones game was in dev way before the tv and thus way before it got as big as it is.

Comment by Sam Hill on January 12, 2013 at 6:41am Luther, you are spot on. ME3 was a pitiful backpedal from ME2, and the original ending is the least of its troubles. ME3 was mediocre and was not mind blowing up until the end.
Look, it wasn't a bad game, but it sure as fuck was no masterpiece, especially if you played 2, and I'm certain the reason it's garnering such high praise is because fans are convinced it's the correct response. I wouldn't say I was angry with this game, but it did nothing to compel me to play again. No, I reserve my venom for Dragon Age 2, which BioWare shat out in quick succession. I was especially pissed when I played ME2 and saw all the love and care that franchise received. So when I heard about ME3's disappointing ending, I can't say I was surprised, not everything that company produces is bursting with effort.
ME2 was phenomenal, with its colourful cast and side missions that gave you insight into their characters and were downright entertaining to play. The worlds were also exciting to explore and the story had a fascinating and complex villain. It was the sort of game where you go out of your way to do everything.
I wish I could have had the same experience with ME3, but I didn't catch a whiff of the excitement. While things like my continued romance with Garrus and Mordin's noble sacrifice, kept me going, it was as if there a wall between me and that game. The missions were largely given by listening in to NPCs, so there wasn't a lot of direct interaction for role playing. Perhaps I could have shrugged that off if there was meaningful interaction with my squad. Instead of missions that allow me to strengthen the bond with my team, I'm on missions to assist previous teammates or stand ins, who have minor bearing on the plot at hand.
I didn't have a memorable experience as a gamer and I didn't experience an emotional connection to act three of this story. I would have had an emotional response to the final moments, but it wasn't earned. I'm just disappointed that this effort is lauded just such high praise, because companies won't be required to aim too high and we'll just get more Dragon 2s, and goddam how it sucked dragon balls.

I kinda liked the Game of Thrones game. The gameplay was pretty basic but the story was great.

Good job on showing that you aren't a child.
Just for shits and grins: the first film in a trilogy? That example is terrible, lol. If you want to use LoTR as an example for an ending, at least go with the third film -- you know, where the series actual ends.
Anywho, if you are looking for someone go into great detail about the ending of Mass Effect, I gladly point to The Angry Joe Show. He does a great job of it, although his "rant" does go on for a bit into some abstract places.
