Comment by Kelly on December 4, 2012 at 10:11pm Rise of the Guardians has hit 106 million internationally if that counts. I had problem with that movie but there's something to that concept and the world they've created that I love, so I'm pretty hopeful for them to do more with it.
When I read the description about old people and tinfoil my first thought was that it had something to do with UFOs. It makes so much sense that the incredibly positive woman is in advertising, just too much sense
Comment by Virgil Tibbs on December 4, 2012 at 10:10pm @RogueLatina: Because regular life is boring, people fantasize about the greener grass on the other side. I would argue that's why normally law abiding citizens love crime movies and why ordinarily peace loving people love action movies. It would definitely explain my fixation with "The Raid". :-D

Comment by Dr. Detfink on December 4, 2012 at 3:40pm Well, Gosttimer...Zorro is one obvious comic book super hero of the latin variety (though first introduced through pulp magazines in 1919) that inspired a ridiculous amount of spin-offs and was part of the inspiration for Batman...
Mainstream modern comics? Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner), Blue Beetle II, Wildcat II (Infinity Inc), Vibe, Gangbuster, Echo, White Tiger, Toro, Firebird... are just off the top of my head. Haven't even gotten into Milestone Comics' latino heroes or other indy books.
I agree, Superman should be interpreted as an illegal alien but Latinos are not exclusive in this department. Speaking of comic books, VooDoo in the new 52 written by Ron Marz was interesting in addressing how Green Lanterns are seen as bad guys through the eyes of aliens seeking refuge on the Earth. Great concept!
And I am not trying to be a troll or using any kind of patronizing tone but one of support and sincere interest. :)
Comment by Ghosttimer on December 4, 2012 at 1:13pm I was on a social network and asked why ther are no black super heroes and people list at lest 5 heroes and were respectful. I asked why there were no Asian super heroes the said anime and kato from green hornet. I aske why there were no latino heroes I got raciest talk and speedy gonzalies they forgot superman is an illegal alien but no just keep blaming the mexican Korey.

Comment by RogueLatina on December 4, 2012 at 9:03am @Virgil Tibbs: It's interesting that you bring up the issue between what women (some) will like or even gravitate to in fiction, but not tolerate in real life. My friends (male and female) have been engaged in an on-going discussion about the Fifty Shades phenomenon. I couldn't get past book 2, but I have some very educated and happily married or in a relationship gal pals that ate that stuff up during our summer reading group. Most of the men I know and I'm sure many I don't, have a hard time understanding how any woman could find an all out abusive relationship dressed up with the subtex of BDSM romantic. I'm kinda twisted, so I've been arguing that Grey/Edward are new archetypes for Prince Charming. Again my male friends can't wrap their heads around that. What say you?
