BeasKnees1000 posted a statusI love Bong Joon-ho's 'The Host.' I found it to be an incredibly affecting monster movie. The opening rampage through that riverside community in Korea was, by itself, worth the price of admission. When I heard a sequel was in the works, I was (cautiously) excited. The first footage for 'The Host 2'has just landed on line and features another great monster attack, this time on the highway. The slo-mo shot of the kids running from the beast may seem silly, but given how poorly things tended to turn out for children in the first movie, I was not laughing. Stick around after the fade to black to see some interesting behind-the-scenes side-by-side comparisons of shots to illustrate the work of the special effects team.
'The Host 2' does not currently have U.S. release date

Convoluted may have not been the right word, but my problems with the plot are as followed, and I'll do best to avoid spoilers:
The origins of the creature was like something out of a Captain Planet episode. The American doctor's reasoning was ridiculousness, and formaldehyde? If they wanted to make America responsible fine, how about there was an illegal chemical weapon used against North Korea during the war and it caused mutation.
My second problem was with the Virus sub plot, after seeing how it's resolved, I don't see why they included it in the film. You mentioned the cover-up, but did the US even realize how the monster was created, and how did the virus aid them in the cover up?
You can reply on my profile instead if you want to get into specifics.
Comment by Davril Chorster on November 23, 2012 at 6:10pm @Chris-thulu, how is the plot convoluted? It's pretty straight forward, from the get go, that the film is social commentary and that it's plot centers on government cover-ups, hence the "excuse" of the virus. As for the third act: wow. The quintessence of cause and consequence.

My only real question at this point is will the family be as wierd as in the first movie? Really felt like watching Cloverfield meets The Royal Tennenbaums at times.
Comment by Mezza on November 23, 2012 at 5:30pm I'm a huge fucking fan of the first. I love monster movies but it came together making a very strong family drama at the same time. I cried like a bitch at the ending moments. It melded together so many genres so well and the monster itself was fucking amazing. I really like this footage but will it be a case of more of the same? I dont know. But I'm willing to give it a chance still. I wish it was a different looking monster though.
Comment by That hipster guy on November 23, 2012 at 5:19pm Awww yes!, I wasn´t aware of the sequel.
Comment by Chris-thulu on November 23, 2012 at 4:33pm I found the original Host to be pretty boring asides from the creature's initial rampage. The plot was convoluted, and it's weird attempts at comedy during dramatic scenes also made the movie tonally confusing. I don't high hopes, but I'll probably rent it just to see the monster scenes.
