Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an interesting guy. He got his start as a child actor, with his big break coming on TV's '3rd Rock from the Sun.' He's made a tremendous comeback in the last few years, and will even be featured in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises,' one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. So naturally now he would want to...star in a 'Little Shop of Horrors' remake? Well, word from skid row is that is exactly what's happening. JGL is helping develop Warner Brothers' remake of 'Little Shop' and, if all goes according to plan, he will also star as nerdy, put-upon florist Seymour Krelborn. Playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who brought us 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' and who is currently writing the 'Carrie' remake, will pen the script. No official deals have yet been made and as of now it is unclear when production would begin.
I really like 'Little Shop of Horrors.' A lot of people have seen the stellar 1986 Frank Oz version of the film, but I'd hazard far fewer people have seen the 1960 movie directed by b-movie king Roger Corman. I recommend both, but for very different reasons. I think, as out-of-left-field as this project seems, Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be an outstanding Seymour. I know he's become something of a dashing leading man of late, but this would be such a great opportunity for him to once again explore the geek roots (no pun intended) that launched his career. Also, both existing film versions of 'Little Shop' are pretty campy so it's not as if we're in danger of treading on holy ground here. All that being said, I can't help but have trepidations about seeing Aguirre-Sacasa's name on this. I recognize that it is a fallacy to blame a Broadway musical's production issues on its playwright, but it's not as if people had real nice things to say about the story there either. In any event, I'm excited to see if JGL can get this one off the ground. Now the real question: will Audrey II be practical or CG?
What do you guys think? Would you see a 'Little Shop of Horrors' remake starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Is he too cool for the role now?

Comment by EVILterminator5 on May 4, 2012 at 2:19pm I hope they remake it, just so we can finally get a blu-ray release of the 1986 version (haven't seen the Roger Corman version)
Comment by Mr. Mitch Mitchell on May 4, 2012 at 1:55pm If they keep the original ending, I guess I'm fine with that.
Comment by Kbomb13 on May 4, 2012 at 1:10pm I wouldn't mind seeing JGL playing Seymour, but I'm not sure how they'll handle the entire project.
Comment by Taylor on May 4, 2012 at 12:39pm I'm surprisingly okay with this. It'd be great if they kept the original ending.
DON'T YOU ARE REMAKE LITTLE SHOP!!!!
Comment by NotTheWhosTommy on May 4, 2012 at 12:07pm He wants to do the musical. Because he loves musicals. He shouldn't, though. Joseph is awesome, but there's no way you can top the Frank Oz version. If anything, he should mount and star in another Broadway version.
Comment by Speedster727 on May 4, 2012 at 11:57am my only question is will it be a remake of the 1960 movie or the 1986 musical movie?
Comment by Grish Oakenshield on May 4, 2012 at 11:26am Joseph as the Seymour Krelborn Character just doesn't strike me as interesting....Maybe as the Orin Scrovello masochistic dentist character perhaps. And definitly not the Audrey II.
Comment by Darth_Siskel on May 4, 2012 at 11:16am I'd be down with this ONLY if they go in a completely diffrent direction like they did with the last remake. You could probebly make a good serious straight-up horror movie out of the source matirial.
And I dunno bout you, but JGL doesn't strike me as "nerdy".
If anything, he's nerdy in the same way that Rachel Lee Cook was in She's All That. Give him glasses - MAGIC
