Comment by Daedalus Ciarán on January 29, 2012 at 4:53am @ Gothka13 - Harry Potter was not snubbed. It got what it deserved, and didn't get what it didn't. There is nothing incredible, beyond a blockbuster sense, in those films. Take the acting from the leads as a perfect example. Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe bounce from terrible to tolerable and go straight back again constantly. The scripts were workmanlike, and ultimately amounted to just translations from page to screen.
@Cyrus - It's pronounced Keyrawn. I assume you were trying to say Ciarán Hinds, though perhaps I'm wrong, it sort of flew past. Great show as always lads.

I surprised you guys didn't talk about Harry Potter when you were talking about Oscars.....I mean, this may just be the geek in me, but there was a huge community online that was so disappointed that Hollywood wouldn't even try to nominate it for a worthy award (and I'm not talking about best picture which I know would never win). I mean it might not have started as a movie, but it has made a huge impression on the movie industry and it is the last time they had a chance to give it an award.
Hell, even the Co-Host 3000 did somewhat enjoyed himself during the movie and he was not really a fan. I know Harry Potter probably already has enough publicity as it is, and that's why the academy would think it needs to recognized smaller films, but you know sometimes when big films are good, they deserved an award. And not just for fucking 'art direction'.
And sometimes small films are bad movies. I just saw the Iron Lady, and boy, talk about your editing problems. I was able to keep up with the plot, despite some weird cut scenes, but this movie is like Inception, if you're not paying attention, you will be confused as fuck.

Only 9 nominees because they changed the rules. You have to have at least 5% #1 votes to cross the threshold.
Great show as usual!
Alcatraz is weird for me.
Great: Flashbacks and the mystery aspect of the phenomenon. Good acting from the prisoners ie bad guys. Good setup: each episode involving a different alcatraz "escapee".
Bad: the 2 main protagonists are horrible actors. The blond is hot and all but she can't act and the fat guy is just annoying to me.
