Sony Pictures Dealing for Steve Jobs Biopic Rights

Just days after the news of Apple exec and all around genius Steve Job’s passing, Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures is working on acquiring the film rights to a soon-to-be-released Jobs biography not-so-enigmatically titled 'Steve Jobs'. The biography is penned by Time Magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson who was Job’s personal choice for biographer after having declined offers from several writers in the past. Isaacson has written several successful biographies on everyone from Henry Kissinger to Albert Einstein. His Steve Jobs biography, at one point unfortunately titled 'iSteve: The Book of Jobs', was originally set for a November release. But with Jobs’ recent passing, the release date has been moved up to October 24th.

Part of me wants to make jokes here, to crack wise about the timing of this deal and the hastiness of this plan for a biopic. But frankly, as soon as I heard that Jobs had died one of the first thoughts to cross my mind was when we would be seeing a movie about him. Steve Jobs was a brilliant man and an incredibly important figure of the 21st century. He revolutionized so many different facets of technology as to draw well-earned comparisons to Thomas Edison. His story is fascinating and it’s exciting that the studio that gave us the compelling cinematic story of Facebook, 'The Social Network', is now helming the potential Steve Jobs film.

No word yet as to whether Noah Wyle ('ER') will reprise the role of Steve Jobs, which he played in the 1999 made-for-TV movie 'Pirates of Silicon Valley'.

I'll admit, I thought of a biopic right away too...but then said "naaa gotta give it some time".

I will say, at this time last year, I was SO surprised at how much I loved The Social Network...I didn't expect a movie about Facebook to feel like a dark thriller. Was never bored once with TSN, it was a near-perfect movie IMO.

FUCK NO Sean Penn.  I call Stanley Tucci.

But yeah... a bit soon isn't it?  Christ

I know I proposed Stanley Tucci on ACOCO but I got another proposition. Ralph Fiennes.

I Just want to echo want Kollin posted. The man had many accomplishments, but he was not a super genius or jesus; and his involvement did not so much 'revolutionize' the computer tech industry as make flashier, more expensive versions of existing tech.

@Ha-Ra
Noah Wylie (E. Coyote) played him in a made for TV movie called Priates of Silocon Valley, he may deserve another chance, if they get David FIncher to direct this the way he made The Social Network, think could be a winner!

@Fungusmonkey + Kollin
The internet wasn't as much invented as it was descovered when some army guys worked out that you can send computer info through the phone lines, it is said Star Trek and porno invented the internet, I find more credibility in the latter!

Interestingly enough you modulate computer data into an audio signal at one end and demodulate it at the other, modulator + demodulator = modem, (this last sentence is nerd talk don't mind me)! :)

Edison was a thief in some rights, he stole some inventions people under him made and because of legal binding contracts they couldn't do anything about it since he legally owned them.
