Remember that "Diary of the Dead" MySpace contest I told you guys about in one of my past blogs? You know, that cool contest where you had the opportunity to make you own 3 minute badass zombie film and if you were lucky enough the "Godfather of Zombie Films" himself, George A. Romero, would handpick your film to be included in the release of the "Diary of the Dead" DVD. Well that contest has ended and I have the five films right here to share with you guys.
Here's some information on how the winners were selected, along with the release date for that fun hell ride of a zombie flick "Diary of the Dead." Hell, what I didn't know is that on May 20th you can make it a double feature zombie night, because along with "Diary of the Dead" you can also pick up the "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION" on the same day! HELL YEAH! Here's the zombie info!
Inspired by the long legacy of horror maven George A. Romero, and timed to the 40th anniversary of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, the short films of five budding filmmakers have been bestowed with the director’s own seal of approval. Following a nationwide contest launched earlier this year on MySpace timed to the theatrical release of DIARY OF THE DEAD – the fifth and latest installment to Romero’s highly successful and popular franchise – hundreds of aspiring auteurs submitted their original shorts to be judged by their online peers and ultimately Romero himself.
After MySpace users voted for their top selections, Romero judged the final picks selecting the top five films and awarding the top prize to The Final Day, a pulse-pounding, flesh-eating zombie tale from Paul Del Vecchio (director/producer), David R. Doumeng (writer/producer), and Douglas Frye (producer). The four additional shorts include Deader Living Through Chemistry, Opening Night of the Living Dead, & Teller and Run For Your Life.
All five shorts can now be seen on MySpace, and will also be featured on the May 20 DVD release of DIARY OF THE DEAD.
Presented in a first-person style via students’ camcorders, cell phones, security cameras and news footage, DIARY OF THE DEAD follows a group of young film students who run into real-life zombies while shooting their own low-budge horror flick. Bonus features including commentary by Romero and character confessions.
DIARY OF THE DEAD DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.95. Additionally the anniversary edition of Romero’s seminal and original zombie film, the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION DVD, crawling with bonus features overseen by the master himself will be priced at $24.95
Damn, that Mr. Romero is one cool daddy-oh for doing this.
Hell, I'll be sure to pick up two of each. One for me to play with and one to frame on my wall. I'm crazy like that. Hey! The holidays will be here in no time, so pick one up for your grandparents. They're almost dead. They'll appreciate that you're thinking of them with such a thoughtful gift. hehe.
Maybe not.
All right! Now that you have that info, check out the contest winners films. And guess what. That quiet little magic dude Teller, from Penn and Teller, made a zombie short too. If I were him I would have used black magic to win the grand prize, but that's just me. I like to cheat. It's fun. Here are the films. GET YOUR ZOMBIE ON!
Well there you go, you zombie bastards! Damn, I can't help but think what I would have done with my zombie film. Probably not much. I would have just turned this one in. It will always be a winner in my eyes!

Diary of the Dead is so good !! Not as good as "Dawn of the Dead", but pretty good.
If you like Romero zombie movies, you'll also enjoy "Fan of the Dead", a documentary ( www.fanofthedead.com )

"Peanuts or brains?" i was dying laughing.
watching them sheer for the zombie the covering their eys when it got killed, again, was to funny.
James Rolfe/Angry Video Game Nerd should have won although only 3 minutes of "The Deader The Better" isn't as great to the actual long version. The contest winners' film are pretty good.
Jesus, Romero looks like a zombie. I don't understand why ''Turtle Zombie Kid'' wasen't on there, just would've made that DVD so much better..........................
