First off, my birthday was awesome. I got a camera and two birthday cakes! My boss' wife has been taking cake decorating classes for the past three months, so she jumps at making a cake for every special occasion. The one she made me wouldn't cook in the middle and fell in. She got upselt and bought me one from the bakery. When She explained what had happened, I told her that I would have loved her gimpy cake...so she brought that in the next day. It's delicious and the middle is like fudge!

Having TV is keeping my movie consumption down, but I need to mention Pontypool

This little Canadian gem surprised the hell outta me. I thought there wasn't much more room for exploration with the Viral-Zombie idea, but then Tony Burgess came up with a tongue in cheek infection pattern that pokes fun at redundancy in speech.
A small staff of radio broadcasters begin to receive muttering pran…

I dislike the mall.
Wandering through a crowded maze of stores that sell identical stuff that I don't want is frustrating and tiring. I get headaches from all of the strong perfume smells, competing noise, and blinking dazzling displays. Sales people harrass me when I want to be left alone then vanish when I need help.
Specifically I was looking for nice ornaments. Everything looks impressive in mass, but examining things individually reveals poor tossed together quality. I'm better off makin…

Our apprentice, Brian, is very talented at photorendering. He does beautiful portrait work which is why Lina (boss lady) reccomended him for a job preparing a foux portrait tattoo for a commercial.
It was supposed to be a simple job. They email him a clear photo of the actor taking a bite of a burger king burger. Brian renders it as a graphite drawing and sends it back. They use whatever process they have to transfer it onto skin. Here's what happened:
-Four day deadline turns into two day dea…

It's well into November and it still has not snowed. It's barely dropped to freezing levels even. This time last year, I was knee deep in slush. Most blame global warming. I blame life's mean sense of humor. I finally shelled out the cash for a nice winter jacket and boots and it turns out that I don't even need them. In that same thread, if I were still in running shoes and a hoodie, there would be a blizzard outside. So, yeah, anyone in the area enjoying our sunny holiday season: You're Welcom…

6. Being spontanious is a fun quality, but being too impulsive in this area can cause stress for everyone. If you've worked up the courage to get a tattoo but have to get it right that day before you lose your nerve, there is a possibility of being let down. The artist you want may be booked up for that day or they may need extra time to complete the drawing for you. If you can be taken that day but haven't really considered a specific design, it's possible that you'll become overwhelmed and fru…

1. Tattoos and tropical vacations don't mix. give your fresh tattoo and your visit to mexico a month long buffer. Sun and soaking will dull the ink and sand does an open wound no good. Do you really want to spend your hard earned vacation hiding in the shade and watching everyone else enjoy the beach?
2. Not all skin is created equal. A tattoo on your arm will not heal exactly the same as a tattoo on your hip. If you painted your entire body and went through an average day, certain areas would…

Every so often we manage to pull our heads out of our own asses and have a clear view of our situation. I was hanging outside the shop, talking to my buddy Ron. Ron is the sound tech at Lee's Palace: the music venue directly next door to our tattoo parlour. I was complaining about having a client be an hour late for her appointment for a crappy symbol the size of a bottlecap. He was complaining about the talent being unorganized and not to his musical tastes. It's a conversation we have often.…

The lady in the unit above ours left her tap dripping while it was plugged. Her kitchen flooded. It seeped down through the walls and flooded our kitchen as well. Two days later, the water damage has bubbled out the paint and caused a giant swell in our floor. I don't even want to think about the mould developing in there...
As an added bonus, we've received a notice from the landlord that our rent is being raised by $20 in February. Good timing.
Gray borrowed my bus pass last night and forgot…

It is the end of the month which means everyone is hoarding their cash to pay bills so work is slow. I got a call yesterday from a girl who wanted to come in to discuss getting a coverup. She was supposed to show up between 5pm and 6pm.
By 7pm I was getting ready to go home as the girl had never shown up but that's when a whole different girl walked in. She barely spoke English so it was a slow going process to alter a simple star design for her. A size bigger on that star here, a thicker line…

Say what you want about Burton, but I will never ever get sick of watching Beetlejuice. I didn't even think about halloween programing when I got cable. Now I gots it. BIZZOW! Gena Davis leaves her home and is transported to an alternate Dune where the Worms are stocking puppets!
So, I bought the Millennim Falcon in Puzz-3D form at a thrift store. It was 75 cents. That should have been my first clue tat it was not space worthy. I've been working on it in my spare time for the past few days and…

My ear hurts. It's swollen and red and oozing goo. Why? Because we were having a slow day last week and I got our piercer to jam a large metal spike into the conch of my ear. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I'm sure that once it heals and I forget how painful this is, I'll be moved to do it once again. It's akin to getting hammered, being violently ill for the next two days, and having beer three days later because I'm an idiot.
What else is stupid?
I've been informed that the moder…

I wont say that I think all of the movies I've seen lately are bad...I just have a bit of shell shock from seeing Crank 2 in the same week as Wolverine. That's more than enough incomprehensible trash for me, thank you.
Crank 2: Imagine you went to a party with this cool guy. It got a little out of hand and he did some crazy shit but you still had a lot of fun. He invites you out again but this time he breaks out some heavy chemicals, has a bad trip, kills a homeless man in front of you and insi…

If you have or are hoping to have a carreer in editing, sound, film, or anything similar, it would be wise to take note of people such as Phil Conti.
A lounge singer from Arizona has batently ripped off the men he had hired to film and edit a promotional video. It was a one day shoot with $1000 budget. Mr. Conti and his partner Marlene Arden paid by cheque then stopped payment on said cheque when they got home.
The wronged party resides here: http://www.brianisinyou.net/podcast/

When I asked my boss if she would like some coffee, she said that she would, but that she would like a frappe-whippi-soy shake from the starbucks instead of the regular Timmy drool that I live off of. I thought that this was fine until I left the Starbucks with her frozen sugar rush in one hand and my latte chi-majig in the other. A few of the hornets encircling the gabage can directly outside of the door were instantaniously drawn to what I was holding. As beautiful as I think they are, I am re…

For the past half decade, I have managed to live without owning a phone, cable, or internet. Instead, I sponge off of the world around me. Work has been my main communication base on top of stray unprotected wireless signals in my apartment and my boyfriend's cell phone. It was almost a point of pride until I came to the realization that I was opting to become a relic.
My mother can barely turn on a computer, let alone do anything with it. She didn't hop onboard the technology train and got lef…

My boss is making me skip work to see the new Final Destination movie in a couple of hours. We got a bunch of free tickets at different times and days for some odd reason. No one else will go today because they all have appointments.
Yay!
I will see many sharp objects and body parts flying towards me.

For those of you who have never traveled to southern Ontario, you may not realize how moist the air tends to be. In mid summer, we steam in the hot sun rather than bake. This kind of excessive moisture gets uncomfortable...especially for a desert girl such as myself. I'm not built of sponge and am likely to mold and rot if I do not undergo regular dehydration sessions.
Last night I got very dehydrated.
We had a bachelor party for Leo...he is off being married for the day and will return tomorr…

I just gave a 19 year old kid his very first tattoo. His choice? He got his own astrological sign, his own last name, and his own birthday.
In case he forgets?
Sadly, this is a common theme. To choose a tattoo is to choose an image, phrase, or theme that makes you happy to see every day. Over coddling and telling every child that they are special over and over again has created adults who actually can't think of anything more special than themselves. I know that everyone likes birthdays, but o…
