As The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen steadily grow drunker, Beau, Harris, and Grant discuss upcoming comic to film adaptations including Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor, Conan The Barbarian, and… Continue
I realize that at this point of time, the label ‘Produced by McG’ is a dubious one. The embarrassingly titled one appears to have little actually to do with this very entertaining spy comedy series other than having directed the first season pilot and signing checks. For my money, that’s a good thing, as the show has grown beyond its initial episodic formula. It took its… Continue
SPACEBALLS - THE TOTALLY WARPED ADVENTURES ANIMATED
“What?” you exclaim, “No one told me about a Spaceballs animated series. Why I...probably wouldn’t watch it anyway.” And that would be a wise and discerning decision on your part. While the TV series was originally supposed to be 13 episodes to run on the video game channel, G4, they managed to crap out 4 half-assed flash animated episodes in 2008… Continue
Kristin got into a car accident. We were all concerned about her ranting and raving afterward, thinking that perhaps she had banged her head on something. When she calmed down enough to enunciate, this was the story we got. All I can say is, there better be a very special Felicia Day episode of LEOG coming… Continue
Some of the rest of the League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen heard your cries. "Only a 90 minute LEOG? But 'Let's Do This' is seventeen hours!" or "Oh noes, a cliffhanger!" You've still got to wait until Friday for the second half of the podcast but to keep your LEOG tootsies warm, the guys put together a series of videos of them discussing some recent comics stuff. And for the record,… Continue
Time can be an elusive thing in this DVD reviewing game. Even though the theatrical picks are sporadic at best in January, I’m being besieged with discs to watch at home and, as you may have guessed, has cut into my time for doing the rest of my top list of the year. So, in a concession to those of you who don’t want to keep reading this through April, let’s just go straight through my final top three films of the year....…
Well, it sounded like a great idea on paper. Hell, way back when, I even gave the script by “Juno” superstar Diablo Cody a big thumbs up, in a rare early review from me. Karyn…Continue
I really wish I had better things to say about this film. Made in Austin, Texas by local filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner, the film focuses on a man obsessing over finding his missing cat, it sounds like the sort of thing I’d normally fall madly in love with. Only, that ‘Made in Austin’ label lately has become associated with mixed feelings for me lately. Yes, I’m one of those ‘WTF… Continue
Yes, Avatar damn it. No, I’m not insane for not making it number one OR for having it on my list at all. So let’s just get past that or the hurling of internet abuse. It’s clear that lots of people feel very strongly about this film one way… Continue
I'm sure it'll come as no surprise that I'm a bit of an old school exploitation horror fan. Not compared to some, who could sit through any old piece of low budget garbage, but probably more than most. I mean, hell, I grew up on a diet of Tom Baker's Dr Who when the BBC was for all extents and purposes a public access station in… Continue
Now that we’ve crossed that barrier into the top five, we’re going to get into some of those films that most of the people I know have either put on their own top ten lists, or have declared are the worst movies of all time...okay, not so much people I know as people I read on my Twitter, but either way, there are gonna be a few here that some folks are gonna get mad-full-on-retarded… Continue
While I’ll fully admit that there are some out-and-out sweet, hearts worn firmly on their sleeves, romantic comedies that make me feel all warm and squishy inside, in general I require something a bit off the beaten path in that genre to keep me interested. The Hollywood ‘ideal’ of romance is one that only works for me these days if A: People are singing the whole time or B: It was made before 1975. Movies that try to express old fashioned dreamy love stories today come across to me as… Continue
So I was a big kid this year. Or at least, it might seem that way if you hadn’t watched all the more serious films of the year and realized how weak most of them were. It really was the year where animation and genre fired on all cylinders but dramatic Oscar-push films were all but universally weak. Which, of course, makes for a much more accessible top ten list. Who’s complaining? Not me.
Worth a look. A statement that sends mixed messages but one that rings true here nonetheless. No one is going to be putting the Neal Brennan comedy “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard” on any ‘best comedies’ lists, of that much I’m sure. Yet, it’s… Continue
Cyrus is back, more or less recovered, and living off of left-overs and the crumbly detritus at the bottom of cookie tins, all traces of chocolate chip or peanut butter confectioneries long having since become one with my being. In theory, the Wii Fit comes out from its dusty hiding spot under the TV stand, the salads become a dietary staple, and I actually get up off my ever-widening ass to take advantage of the yawning chasm of dead zone about to begin. It's the beginning of a long… Continue
