Disney has already gobbled up our comic book icons, and now it rears its head towards the Otaku. Plus Gamer News with Endless, who discusses "The Year of the Fighter", and the New York Anime Festival merges with NY Comic Con to become...something that will no doubt be very, very crowded.

I am not a rabid Miyazaki fan. Ask anyone who knows me. There are dozens of directors, writers, and general artists in Japan that I give much more props than the venerable boss hog of Studio Ghibli. But while I don't praise him as much openly, I have seen a ton of Miyazaki… Continue
We discuss the state of the Anime industry during this oh-so-wonderful global recession. Endless explains his namesake, and I vent on Gonzo--for the first time, but definitely not the last. A short but sweet parody near the 50-minute mark that I think a lot of "old guards" will enjoy. Oh, and news as well as details on the contest.

As some of you may know, I've been toying around with podcasting here on Spill. Here's a little status report on things.
Equipment has been purchased and tested, and I've been studying up on audio editing and what-not, so if everything goes according to plan the first "official" installment should be available for streaming (and iTunes download) sometime next week. The show will be semi-weekly at first, and based on the popularity of it we'll go from there. The gist of the show is news in the A… Continue

You can't say I don't credit my sources. I would've just embedded the player here, but I figured it was too short to warrant that--Ideally I want to save the longer podcasts for the embedded gcast player, and just put up weekly update news bytes on my main Spill page. Enjoy, and expect me to be making a group, announcing contests, etc...very very soon.

You guys remember "The Neverending Story"? Of course you do. Just like you remember all those old movies with the same premise: People falling into an imaginary world, sometimes in a subconscious attempt to escape their real life. But they almost always find that the problem… Continue

A little while ago, a fellow Spiller (whose name I have forgotten--my apologies) wrote a blog called "Anime That Anyone Can Enjoy". It was filled with the usual titles I see on lists like these. Bebop, for example, was high on the list. It was a good list.
But not entirely… Continue
Elitist, high-brow adult Anime fans--like myself--can breath some fresh air come this summer.
The duo behind the super-existential brain-f*ck that was Serial Experiments Lain, writer Chiaki Konaka and character designer Yoshitoshi ABe, are teaming up with their old… Continue
(AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a review I did years ago that I posted on thisisby.us. I thought I posted it on Spill but I think I actually took it down. Someone on Spill asked me to provide this, so here it is. Enjoy.)Hideaki Anno's Ego is Bigger Than Mine
(...And probably yours too. But here is a review of his latest rehash of the past, "Evangelion 0: You Are (Not) Alone".)
"Should I go see the new Evangelion movie?"
I asked my friend over IM one day, knowing it was probab… Continue
Anime composer extraordinare Yoko Kanno is getting the ol' band back together.
That's right. The force that made Cowboy Bebop that much more awesome and timeless, the infamous band known as The SEATBELTS, is back for a one-night only engagement in Tokyo, on July 7, 2009.
And Kanno, the woman responsible for the music heard in Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, The Vision of Escaflowne, Wolf's Rain, and a gaggle of other series and movies-- is inviting all of t… Continue
Shoujo Beat, U.S. sister publication to Shonen Jump (where Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece were born), has ceased to print.
A couple of Shoujo Beat alums that you may recognize: Nana, Honey and Clover, and Vampire Knight. All current titles will still be published in tankobon (stand-alone graphic novel) format.

Yes, I'm talking to you, sir. Get ready to remember once again how much of a doucheball Tony Stark is.
Part of me is excited simply because I fiercely enjoyed the last one, as well as both installments of X-men Legends. But Civil War: The Video Game? Guess it was inevitable.

...Yes.
YES.
OH MY F*CKING GOD YES!!!!
*deep breath*...For those of you who know me, or keep track of this blog or my OTHER blog (which I will update soon--I promise!) you are aware of my admiration of one Shane Acker, and his ambitious one-man animation domination of a short film, 9. Well, Spielberg picked it up years ago, announcing the intent of a full-on motion picture release...and not much was heard since then.
BUT FEAR NOT!!!! It has not died in development hell! No, my friends… Continue
The Latest Trailer For Dragonball:Evolution
...Yeah.
All I have to say to this is...Dubya.Tee.Eff.
You know, after having infrequent debates with the likes of Korey and Kent about this film as well as the overall 'worth' of Dragonball/Z/GT in the broad scheme of things, I really am tired of beating a dead horse. Or in the context of this horrible (as Carlyle would say) turd-blossom of a project--castratin… Continue
Latest Theatrical Reboot of X-men to Resemble "The O.C."
....Generation X, anyone?
Much respect to the man that brings my sister much pleasure with Gossip Girl (which wasn't too difficult--GG is a series of books), but I would prefer that he leave mutants to the people that know what they are doing.
Jesus. Will they stop at nothing to get our money? I'd much rather retreat to the dark corners of geekdom than… Continue
