BEST SCREENPLAYS

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

6. The Help (Tate Taylor): This is a greatly written script, but the attempts at humor and a certain subplot hold it back from a higher rank.

5. Hugo (John Logan): Well written and some very touching moments, but humor holds it back a bit.

4. Drive (Hossein Amini): A rather simple plot evolves in many complex ways. But there is very little dialogue here, that isn't a problem for me, but I am more partial to the other scripts that ranked… Continue

BEST TEASER TRAILER AND BIGGEST BAADASS!

BEST TEASER TRAILER (a cinematic strip-tease, if you will)

5. The Avengers: I am just interested to see what they do with my man, the Hulk. My personal favorite Avenger.

4. Prometheus: I haven't seen 'Alien', (i'm fucked, aren't I?).

3. The Dark Knight Rises: Maybe I would be a bit more excited for this film if you guys had shut up about it for a fucking second! I love you guys, but something tells me the many of ya feel way too passionate about this film that… Continue

BEST FIGHT/BATTLE AND BIGGEST WTF MOMENT

BEST FIGHT/BATTLE

6. The catfight from Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol: You knew this one wasn't going to win, but it deserves some recognition. Damn!

5. The cannibal's house in I Saw The Devil: My favorite of all the fights in this great revenge story. This one was so well shot and frighteningly filmed you can't take your eyes away from the screen.

4. The brothers battle in Warrior: A very lengthy, emotionally straining fight between two detached brothers. It… Continue

BEST VILLAIN AND BEST HERO

BEST VILLAIN

(note: Yeah, the Human Centipede 2 guy isn't nominated. Well, it just seemed like a emotionless fat-ass killer to me. Really, it should just be Tom Six as the villain in the next film)

8. 'Charlie', played by Chris Henry Coffey in Trust: For his brief appearance in the film, he is truly chilling. He doesn't rank higher, though, because the girl was basically asking to be raped, (dumb girl).

7. 'Magneto', played by Michael Fassbender in X Men First Class:… Continue

BEST MALE AND FEMALE MOVIE CHARACTERS!!!

BEST MALE MOVIE CHARACTER

6. 'Tin Tin', voiced by Jamie Bell in The Adventures of Tin Tin: A very interesting character that is unfortunately not fleshed out. Still cool, though.

5. 'Magneto', played by Michael Fassbender in X Men First Class: A much more interesting character than I expected and almost infinitely compelling.

4. 'George Valentin', played by Jean Dejuardin in The Artist: A very entertaining, humorous, human character we can draw personal… Continue

Introduction to my BEST OF 2011 IN MOVIES AWARDS!!!

All the movies I saw... Holy fucking shit..... I owe all of this to my awesome parents. My mom, who drove me half across the state of CO to see 'The Tree Of Life'. Who got me both Netflix deals and took me at least twice a week to the cinema. Thank you, my mother.

My dad, who contently sat in a darkened theater with me while we watched Lisbeth Salander get brutally raped for what felt like FOREVER, and still finished the film. Who bought me book after book and showed me article after… Continue

My thoughts on the Scream awards 2011

My thoughts on some of the winners of SCREAM 2011

I did not see the actual show, but I listen when they haul out the nominees. Here are my thoughts on the results of some categories.

The Ultimate Scream winner- Deathly Hallows Part 2

This threw me off because they added tv shows which I find completely irrelevant. Pick ten tv shows and ten movies, why mix them up? I am happy to see one of the greatest conclusions of any cinematic series is gaining so much momentum… Continue

So?

I just thought about something a few days back. Which matters more; how many films you see or what you understand about them. You can't just watch every Bergman film and that be it right? That just doesn't add up to me. I know my fair share of in depth movie knowledge but not all of it. Now in day movie knowledge consists of box office domineers and actor-couple relationships. You can see every film in Steven Jay Schneider's 1001 book but how much does that weigh with others if you don't know… Continue

Length of movies

I recently heard that Stanley Kubrick stretched out his film Barry Lyndon so long to the point were we would have to call it an epic or a masterpiece. Why do people think that the longer a film is it seems more brilliant? Well the more time you spend watching it the film grows on you. The 200 minute long JFK was a fantastic film in its own rights and like Lyndon it is one of the greatest examples of masterful filmmaking. But JFK was flawed and so was Lyndon. I dont think that the longer a…

Andrew C. Second analysis of The Tree Of Life

My last analysis, as you know, was a review. I think with a film like this works like a long prayer, cannot be discussed with simple words or shrugged off. Those critics that found fault with this film must have had their reasons. I did say in my original analysis that it would not be my final word on the movie. I am still young and so is the film, and yet it feels older, more wise than most films of this sort.

I have only seen a short amount of films of this kind. Gaspar Noe's…

Andrew C. Great Movies Introduction

Now I recently downloaded the Roger Ebert Great Movies app and I love it which gave me an idea.

I rewatch and watch older films every week and I don't like writing current reviews for them like their new. Now I figure if i love a film right off the bat, i should just blog once every week about a film that has deeply affected the way i watch movies.

Thank you to Roger Ebert who inspired this.

Films i might add to great movies over the months

Midnight In Paris Review

Lowering my standards for a Woody Allen film, i should be ashamed but his other films in THIS generation suck. So i walked into this expecting, well a good time, what i got was deeper. This movie opens with at least a five minute slide show of paris in different views, giving off different beauty perspectives. This set a tone that the film would follow that i admire. It is some cross between Manhattan and Annie Hall, the visual beauty of this film was really something, this film never got a…

What has happened to this generation of film goers? You may not wanna know but it is true,

Myself included, we have all succumbed to our own guilty pleasures at the movies. I never hear someone say Ran was their favorite movie but more of the usual crash explosion fare appeals to them. I enjoyed The Dark Knight, Fight Club, and even 2001 A Space Odyssey. The relevance is that all three films stretched their credibility at one point and i noticed. Fight Club was a no brainer, even though i loved it. All of those passionate about genre appeal films that are all substance and no style… Continue

X Men First Class review

I on occasion read a super hero comic. Marvel being my favorite. But just to make things clear i am strictly X Men, in my mind Thor sucks, (comic and film) Spider Man is okay and the Hulk is fun, but the X Men is the one i always pick up. This film tells the history of the bromance between young Professor X (James Mcavoy) and young Magneto (Michael Fassbender). Why Marvel studios tosses out origin films this summer out of the blue is their way of getting us pumped for the inevitable Avengers…

Super 8 and why every true movie goer should see it.

So i recently saw a film by the name of Super 8 directed by J.J Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. I must point out Spielberg's involvement right off the bat because off the nostalgia factor on screen half the time. This is a standard monster film with oscar worthy elements. The train crash blew my mind and i actually clapped. It is my favorite crash scene in a movie next to the reacurring car crash in Amores Perros. Michael Giacchino's wonderful score, if you dont remember him, he was… Continue
