The Road: The only thing i'm looking forwrd to......

Strange Times for cinema goers. Ain't that much left to look forward to for the rest of the year is there. The Road is bout the only thing I'm excited about, but at the same time, not that excited. Lets see...am.... Firstly, Based on the novel. Same author as "No Country for Old Men", Cormac McCarthy. So The story' pretty good. Secondly, Viggo. Man what an actor, easily the best actor of the moment. Strange when people were calling Bale that a few months ago. Ah Well. Also, it's and end of the… Continue

Bands and Musicians who desereve a movie.

Hello my fellow earthicans. This is a blog about some kick ass acts, that really should have a kick-ass movie(not documentary) done about them. This is all coming from a love for Spinal Tap and the fact that Anvil is great. However, I'm pretty sure there are a lot more famous and interesting stories about Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll. This being part 1 of 2. Not in any particular order, number1: Led Zeppelin: Rock Gods and Grandaddy's of metal, Led Zeppelin the Movie would roc… Continue

Tv Shows that Matter a Damn

Hello all. The Batboy Returns!!!!!! After a lenghty absence from SPill i has returned, not that anyone here really remembers me or gives 2 shits. So anyway,...... my blog. So got thinking earlier, what modern tv shows were/are consistently any good and tick the same boxes as what we'd call a great movie. These were my answers, but of course, as this is the internet, i've probably left some out. Let me know which ones. here it goes. -The Sopranos

Day-Lewis and Scorsese Partnership Part3

According to variety Daniel Day-lewis will be part of Martin Scorsese's upcoming film "Silence". To me, it's already sounding good. Gangs of New York was underated I felt and "The Age of Innocence" wasn't bad either. Scorsese seems to be be in flying form anyway. The Departed will be difficult to top, but lets see how this one goes.

My 3 not so widely talked about, anticipated films for 2009

Ok, so one has probably been talked about alot. I did this to forgoe the obvious choices of Watchmen, Benjamin Button, Terminator:Salvation, Harry Potter, and of course everyone's favourite, Pink Panther 2. But here they are anywho; 1. Che I've been looking forward to this for i don't know how long, but i'm really excited about it. Benicio Del Toro is a fab actor, Fear and Loathing, 21 Grams. Personally, I've an interest in history and Ernesto "Che" Guevara always had my mind facinated. Read t… Continue

Australia Review

No, I'm not reviewing a country here. Its the new movie Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. Set in........guess??? Thats right Oz. Its about a boy who is the child of a native aboriginy and a white immigrant, the wife of the recently deceased land owner, and a cattle drover, Drover. Honestly, I was dragged to this by the girlfriend but the opening led me to believe this was more than Titanic in the outback. It's opening half hour to 40 minutes really are some of the most impress… Continue

DeNiro and Pacino, WTF?

Over the last decade true movie fans have seen the decline of two of the most powerful, talented and memorable actors ever. Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, who for so long could not be questioned or doubted, have turned out some of the biggest piles of crap in the last few years. For Pacino, we got S1m0ne, a stupid ass movie with a ridiculous idea, Two for the money, Oceans Thirteen, pah-lease, and lets not forget the cracker that was Giglil, with those other two movie powerhouses that are Benifer… Continue

Body of Lies Review

It just came out over here and i'm just back from seeing it. I really enjoyed the film. If you liked Black Hawk Down, which this is kinda similar to, then you'll like this. I'd describe it as amodern version of black hawk, but focusing on the people in control of the situation.

Dark Knight follow up Idea: Knightfall

I think if the Knightfall story was adapted like this, Chris Nolan could another wonderful job. So let me know what you think and be aware that i'm aware some points are thin and could be more detailed, like one about a certain villain.

-Starts out with similar situ… Continue

What's Eating Johnny Depp?

Strange, I feel, that the status of Depp, as an actor, has wained in the last few years. He was and is loved by many a person for his dashing good looks. He seems cool enough, plays guitar and hangs around with Keith Richards, lives in France and is married to the beautiful Vannessa Paradise. However, he was a respected actor (in my books anyway).

Best Ever Made Movies from Ireland.

Here are some the best Irish made films over the last few years. Some I love to bits, others....meh. But all are very impressive. These are in no particular order. I'll start off with possibly the most famous, " MYLEFT FOOT" Its the story of Christy Brown, who was born with crippling cerebral palsy. His family are poor working class, and Christy is believed to be retarded for the first 10 years of his life. With help, he comes to terms with and overcomes his condition to become a brilliant pai… Continue

Spielberg Can't Remake Oldboy! Why you ask?

I hope that if your reading this then you already know. But fear not young spillions, you can still read this blog. If you haven't seen Oldboy, go watch it, and you'll know its been done too well to be remade by Senior Spielbergo. I have a deep love for this movie. Its cool, action-packed, brutal and cruel, all in one. It translates so retardedly well for a non-english speaking film. OLDBOY: A film by Park Chan-Wook, staring Choi Min-Sik. A man is inexpliciably kidnapped and… Continue

Best Sean Connery Bonds

Obviously Daniel Craig is the best James Bond actor yet. Unlike everyone else in Ireland I don't believe that it is Pierce Brosnan. So Sean Connery is second in my books. If you think he beats Craig, go see a psychiatrist ya fuck. However, Connery is the original Bond, and the Bond our minds always track back to when comparing Craig or anyone else. Therefore I've decided to list his titles in top, best, countdown list form thingy. THUNDERBALL: Didn't care for it. Enough said there. DIAMONDS… Continue

Brandon Routh on aDarker Superman

The not so terrible actor playing the hero a second time answered I don't know, I don't think the character necessarily has to be darker, I think he is kind of dark in a sense, emotional dark, in Superman Returns, and the movie as a whole was slightly dark, they could have had more prowess in it I suppose, and I think that's one thing that can be done in the sequel, so I don't know how much darker you want to make it necessarily. You make the stakes higher, you make the villain darker, I think… Continue

Iron Man crew to return for Iron Man 2 and Avengers

MTV movie news reported that the men in (and behind) "Iron Man" will be sticking together for more than just the anticipated sequel. Marvel Studios has officially announced that Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau will be teaming up for not only "Iron Man 2," but also the company's much-anticipated superhero battle royale "The Avengers." Downey will reprise his role as Tony Stark in "Iron Man 2" and again in "The Avengers," while Cheadle will pick up the part of James "Rhodey" Rhodes… Continue

Review of "Hunger"

I was so impressed by this film. It really is amazing. I would compare it to there will be blood to an extent, and if you've seen it, you'll know what i mean. Hunger is the story of the famous/infamous irish republican hunger strikers, and the main leader in prison, Bobby Sands. It was directed by the obviously talented Steve McQueen of London (not the actor, this guy is thirty something and black). It stars Michael Fassbender (of 300) and Liam Cunningham (of many Irish films and shorts includi… Continue

Dvd Review: In Bruges

Dark, funny, haunting and human are just some descriptions I take away from watching In Bruges for the second time. On watching this again I was sceptical that it wouldn't hold up, but I think I saw more of the film this rime than last. Martin McDonagh wrote this and directed it too. It is wonderfully written and Bruges itself seems like a cinematographer's dream. The acting in this is ace. Colin Farrell gives s his best performance since Tigerland I feel. His character Ray is so easy to relate… Continue
