We're nearing the end of the summer movie craze, and only a select few movies this summer were actually great. Star Trek and Up were really the only BIG summer movies that have garnered universal praise. I, with my new job at a movie theater, have seen every mainstream release since May 29th (except for Imagine That, missed that one). So it was a breath of fresh air to see that the sixth Harry Potter lived up to the hype.
I grew up watching the Harry Potter movies, and I have watched them evolv…

You know when you go to a movie when it's empty and think, "Yes!!! Peace and quiet!" only to see a group of preteen dumbasses who laugh really hard whenever someone says "shit" or "bitch" enter the theatre? That was my experience while watching I Love You, Beth Cooper. And trust me, you DON'T want to see a movie as bad as this with anyone with an IQ below 70.
Right off the bat, you hate the lead character. He starts his valedictorian speech by proclaiming his love to the head cheerleader, Beth…

Because I got a new job at a movie theater, I can go see a lot of movies for free. Unfortunately, I have to deal with my summer reading (which was suddenly assigned to me HALFWAY THROUGH SUMMER!!!!!!), so I don't have enough time to review the movies I see. So without further ado, I give you 4 quickie reviews. (Not that anyone really cares).
THE PROPOSAL
Very shallow and formulaic, but so very funny. What makes this work is the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. They're…

Yesterday it was reported that Justin Timberlake was in contention to play The Green Lantern. JT had shot a screen test for the film, as had the other three contenders Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, and Ryan Reynolds. But at the end o…

You know that certain movie that you go to see just so you can throw your hateful words at it afterwards only to find out it's not as terrible as you thought it would be? For me, Year One was just that.
It's not a good movie by any means, but the little things in it make it slightly tolerable. The plot, however, is not one of those things. In fact, it's rather shallow. It's basically Jack Black and Michael Cera being banished and taking part in an *ahem* "epic" adventure, that their crushes jus…

My Life in Ruins? More like This Movie's in Ruins!
I thought long and hard to come up with a decent review of this, but there just isn't much to say about this. So if you want an in-depth review, look elsewhere.
I haven't seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but I have seen a lot of romantic comedies, and I can tell you right now that My Life in Ruins has no originality. You've already seen it.
And I'm unsure why this is labeled as a romantic comedy, because the "comedy" is heavily lacking. I only…

Michael Bay plans to quit the action franchise because he has “had enough” of making big-budget blockbusters. He claims he is sick of receiving negative reviews from critics who dislike his movie-making style and that he is determined to move away from the genre.
He says, “It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie."
This deci…

I wasn't all that interested in seeing this until I saw episodes of the TV show. And I have to say, they look like crap. I wanted to see the movie because I liked the concept, and I didn't want to continue watching the show. Plus, I like Will Ferrell.
The movie starts strong with a hilarious bit between Will Ferrell and Matt Lauer, and from then on it was hit or miss. Ferrell and co-star Danny McBride's chemistry is dead-on hilarious. Most of the jokes in the movie won me over, but others miss…

This is officially my second favorite film of the year so far (behind Drag Me to Hell). I saw it in 3D and it, like all Pixar movies do (except Cars), blew me away. It falls just short of becoming one of my favorites, but it comes pretty damn close.
The animation is amazing, not so much in the detailed or "It-looks-so-real-" department, but just by the amount of stuff that's going on onscreen. When the balloons first pop up from behind Carl Fredrickson's house, it's an amazing sight. The physic…

To prepare myself for this movie, I watched my dad's copy of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I was surprised to find that I didn't have much trouble understanding the terminology and technobabble, and I ended up loving the movie. About a month later (now), I finally saw Star Trek, and while it's nowhere near as good as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, it comes freakishly close.
The movie centers around the original crew of the Starship Enterprise James Tiberius Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachar…

I saw the first Night at the Museum on opening day (December 22, 2006) because that was my 14th birthday. I loved it, and I am thinking about adding it to my favorite movies list (I don't see many movies). Seeing the sequel's trailer, I got excited because I was gonna see a ton of new characters played by some of my favorite actors. This, unfortunately, is one of the biggest flaws of the film.
Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) has just hit the big time with his inventions after moving on from his night…

Back when I was young, naive, and very stupid, I watched The DaVinci Code and loved it. I thought that it was an amazing, well-structured piece of art. Of course, since that was two years ago, I would probably have different feelings if I were to watch it again. I wasn't too excited when I heard that they were going to make an Angels and Demons movie to follow up The DaVinci Code, but then I saw the trailer and was immediately hooked. It had a certain epic feeling in it. Sadly, the movie doesn't…

Let me start out by saying this. Going to see this movie was the most fun I have had at a movie theater since I saw The Dark Knight.
Drag Me to Hell is about Christine Brown, a girl whose life is great. She has a great boyfriend, and she is in line to be promoted to assistant manager at her job. Everything is going great until one day where she screws everything up and refuses to grant an evil-looking gypsy an extension payment on her home. As you can probably guess, the evil-looking gypsy curs…

I would like to start the review by saying this:
FUCK YOU, AARON SELTZER AND JASON FRIEDBERG!
Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I’ll start my review.
Dance Flick is mainly a spoof on Save the Last Dance. It’s about Megan (Shoshanna Bush), who has a dream of going to Juilliard and becoming a dancer. While she is performing at her dance audition, her mother is tragically killed in an auto accident. Megan must move to another city to her destitute father's apartment which is located in a…

NOTE: I did not read a single review for this movie before writing my own.
I will admit right here and now that I have not seen the first and third Terminator movie. The second one is one of my favorite movies of all time, and a movie has to make a HUGE impact on me to get on my favorites list. Walking into Terminator: Salvation, I knew it wasn't going to be another T2, but I had high hopes because the final trailer that was released just blew me away. Boy, was I in for a surprise.
The acting,…

PG-13 horror movies, as we all know, almost always suck. Most of the time it's because it's too toned down to be scary at all. It has come to the point where they have just become predictable. The Haunting in Connecticut is, granted, one of the better PG-13 horror films, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's great.
The Haunting in Connecticut charts one family's real-life (screw that) encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, the…

Going to see a movie with a bunch of kids can be a nightmare. There's a bunch of talking (loud talking), giggling at the most juvenile jokes (which bothers me), and kids pointing out everything they see onscreen. To a prolific moviegoer, this should not be much of a surprise. What is surprising is how many moviegoers complain that the kids ruined the movie for them, and when it comes to a movie like Monsters vs. Aliens, I feel that it enhances the moviegoing experience and makes the movie even m…

I was able to catch a showing of this on HDNet.
The Great Buck Howard is about Troy Gabel (Colin Hanks), a law school drop-out, who wants to become a writer, much to his father's (Two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks) disapproval. Troy is still an amateur writer, and he isn't getting anywhere, so he decides to get a job as the assistant of Mentalist Buck Howard (Two-time Oscar-nominee John Malkovich). Buck performs his corny show to small audiences in small towns, but he doesn't accept that he isn't…

Henry Selick never ceases to amaze me. If I love anything more than CG, it's stop-motion animation. It says to the audience, "Hey, we took our time with this. We care about your enjoyment." This movie says that, then it just blows your mind.
First, I have to clear things up. No. This is NOT better than The Nightmare Before Christmas or James and the Giant Peach. However, it IS better than Corpse Bride and Monkeybone. Second, YOU NEED TO SEE THIS IN 3-D!!!!!! It isn't all gimmicky like Spy Kids…

I wasn't interested in seeing this, but I was invited. My conscience told me to go.
I really like Kevin James. Personally, I think he made I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry funny, but that's just me. I think he has a spark to him that generates laughs from lame jokes. He didn't pull it off as well in this as he did in Hitch or I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, but it was still tolerable enough to keep me in my seat for 90 minutes.
First off, I don't like the script. The few one-liners tha…
