Venture too far away from its roots and people will start violent mobs demanding blood (a very real threat in this instance). I can't…

After watching Gangster Squad, I raced back home to write my review. Not that it’s so bad that I need to release a public warning, but because it’s so brilliant I feel compelled to tell every man and woman I can find to watch this film with the promise of enjoying one of the best guilty pleasure movies in a long while.

From a concept on paper, the idea of Quentin Tarantino tackling a true western film should be right up his alley. After all, his films are littered with homages (or straight theft, depending on who you ask) to great western films like cinematic shots lifted from The Good the Bad and the…

How does one even begin preparing themselves to create the follow-up to some of the greatest movies of all time? The Lord of the Rings trilogy not only has garnered accolades and commercial success, but also managed making the Academy Awards…

It’s a strange time we live in where not only a video game adaptation of a licensed product proves excellent but turns out to be the best part of the franchise. Yes, that’s blasphemous to some, but let me explain: the Walking Dead comic, though expertly written frequently…

Here we are again, ladies and gentlemen. Another year, another overly-complicated, under-written mess of a season of that one machinima show that can't seem to die - Red vs. Blue. For those who haven't followed the series, Red vs. Blue began as a…

*EDIT: I'm sorry that I didn't clarify that I'm NOT leaving the site, I'm just disappointed with how things currently are running.
This will be an unpopular opinion, especially given how loved the personalities are loved on this website. However, I must still profess my grievances in order to air out my problems that I currently have with the site.
I love Spill.com, ever since I discovered it back in 2008, I’ve been a firm follower in the website. Between listening to…

When Christopher Nolan was developing Batman Begins, people scoffed at the very notion of rebooting a franchise. How would it work? Would people take to it, or naturally recoil from filmmakers walking over already well-worn ground? To most people's surprise back in…

If competition breeds excellence, then Pixar must have been pushed to their limit to create an even better masterpiece than their previous attempts. In 2011, not only had Pixar released their first critical disappointment with Cars 2, but also they had gone head to head with…

The Aliens franchise has been a sorted mess of successes and failures. Ridley Scott began the series with the classic Alien, in which a team in a commercial space-faring vessel starts being hunted by a terrifying creature. James Cameron took the series…

With the Twilight movies racking up the big bills, studios are scrambling over each other trying to find the next big fantasy movie to satisfy the female demographic looking for escapist adventure. We’ve had reenvisionings of Red Riding Hood,…

The hardest thing when adapting a story from another medium into a video game is to ensure that the very essence of that the gameplay perfectly syncs up with the story the developers are trying to tell. With The Walking Dead, the plot is heavy on character development, so the run-and-gun…

(*This a review of season 9 of Red Vs. Blue, not a review of the DVD*)
Yes, this blog post is extremely late, but, judging the meager additions to the "Featured Community Blog" section of Spill, I thought "why the heck not," dust off this old entry, and post it.
The most difficult thing to do is to let go of something you love, even when you know, in your heart, it's the right thing to do. I, too, was a Red vs. Blue fan. Reciting great quotes from Simmons, Caboose,…

I’ve never been able to grasp American fascination with Italian gangsters. The group seems to have some sort of air to them that the general population finds intoxicating, particularly when it comes to fiction. From The Sopranos to Goodfellas, the reason for…

Making my way out of the city, I was approached by a modest-looking civilian. He asked if he could accompany me on my journey for his own pilgrimage. I accepted and we ventured through the wilderness. After a good long hike we were set upon by five huge snarling wolves. In the midst of the battle against them,…

Let’s get them out of the way. You know what I’m talking about: the puns. “This film goes ape-shit. This is bananas. I’d be a monkey’s uncle. King Kong ain’t got shit on me!” We get that out of our system? Good. Let’s get to the review.
Rise of the Planet of…

Blending movie genres is an incredibly tricky endeavor. Movies like Back to the Future succeed by perfectly juggling genres like sci-fi, comedy, drama, romance, and adventure while giving the audience a cast of unforgettable characters. Cowboys and Aliens is no Back to the Future.

The people working at Twisted Pixel are a certain type of crazy. Not the ‘charging for an online pass’ crazy. Good crazy. The type of crazy you want when you throw a party. In an industry where big corporations, quite frankly, take themselves far too seriously, it’s nice to see a small indie company crafting hilarious games with so much heart. Sure, they've royally screwed up, like in the case of Comic Jumper, but it’s obvious that the developers want to make a wholly unique…

Few films can pull off the idea of patriotism without coming off as jingoistic, and xenophobic, rants. It's even harder when the country portrayed as the 'good one' is America. I'm happy to say that not only does Captain America: The First Avenger sidestep these metaphorical landmines, but also provides an enjoyable romp with a story I didn't think was possible pulling off.

It's unbelievable how much more praise Empire Strikes Back gets over its sibling films. Everyone only seems to remember the infamous "Luke, I am your father" line, Yoda's gibberish talk, and the Tauntauns. Besides those described items, there doesn't seem to be an overabudance of highlights. I'm here today to talk about the film that I felt was the best of original trilogy and the one that's been spurned by Star Wars fans: Return of the Jedi. When I talk…
