Introduction:
What is it about a zombie film that is so compelling? Zombies are devoid of the personality that vampires and werewolves have developed over the decades. On top of that, the zombie formula hasn’t had much variation over the last 3 decades. 28 days later and the Dawn of the Dead remake tweaked the formula by making zombies into world-class sprinters. Certainly,…

The other day, I was @ Cinema Nolita pursing through their international film selection when I overhead a young couple admit that they never saw the Godfather. What was baffling was how nonchalant they were about it as they picked up Twilight. It's official, the Godfather is the equivalent of seeing a silent movie to a new generation. When Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece is passed over by Twilight, it's time to re-evaluate where film is headed.
Maybe my fiancee' is right. I am too hard on fi…

Every once in a while, a film comes out that touches its audience on a level that can't be described. You know the plot. You know how its going to end. You know the message. But there's something about it that really resonates. Last film that did that to me, The Half Nelson. How refreshing is it? Amidst a sea of special effects, sequels, and escapism there is the best film that prov…

Warning: If you have a low tolerance for dated cliche' stereotypes and dialogue circa 1990-ish desperately trying to be funny and cute, this is not the movie for you. In fact, Michael Bay even had an unfunny swine flu joke in a NY meat shop. Yea, it was that desperate.
It had a decent start
The movie opened with the transformers on Earth during the early days of man that reminded you a lot of Stargate meets 2001. Pretty much this one scene set up the plot for the entire fil…

Green Lantern #40 Orange Crush!
I learned two things about the Orange Lantern power. It could be the most powerful light. Seems like it doesn't like to share power and consumes whoever bears power then replicates their dead form. Freaky. I think the Star Sapphires will play a role in saving the GL's asses. Seems like nothing can combat the orange light but love that conquers all.
Legion of 3 Worlds #4Super Legacy!
Wow, Geoff Johns hits it out of…

A pretty grisly week for comic books. I think there was no shortage of blood porn action:
Kick Ass #6:
Who's your Daddy?
Well finally after like 2 years, Kick Ass swings back around to what just preceded Dave getting his balls fried by the mob. Apparently Hit Girl and Big Daddy are gullible enough to believe that kids are just as stupid as Dave when in fact, the head mob's son played tag along just to lure them into a trap. The origin of Hit girl is a great play on the super hero…

It's Baseball season once again. Unless you live in NYC, Boston, or Chicago, you can never appreciate how much this sport still remains a part of America's pastime. Another national pastime in America is our fascination with crime noir films. Since the foundation of this country, the right to bear arms isn't seen as a liberty but at times a necessity. In the after math of the Stock Market crash, Prohibition gave the streets to the mob and no other era taught us just how profitable crime can be.…

Action Comics # 876All about my Mother
Greg Rucka's at the top of his game when he writes this issue from the perspective of Ursa, General Zod's lover. More importantly, she's the mother of Lor-Zod better known as Chris from the Last Son storyline. The issue pretty much gave us Ursa's thoughts. We come to find her more of a tool than an actual individual. She's cold, ruthless but utterly cowardly. She's the school bully who can dish it out but can't take it in. When she thre…

They say money doesn't buy happiness and that's probably true but it definitely doesn't hurt. After graduating from The New School: Parsons School of Design, I didn't get a lot of money but a lot of knowledge, skill, and a lot of loans to pay back. Literally freelance art is prostituting yourself to pay your rent in the 12th most expensive city in the world. There was a lot of pain, suffering, misery...and I guess that comes with giving birth to anything in life. As Ayn Rand teaches us in the Fo…

After working 21 straight days of 16+ hours of work, I needed an escape not just from the daily grind but from the escalating cold weather headed towards New York City. I'm not going to bore you with pics that you could get out of googling up tourist pics. I'll just make a few points and highlight some of the finer aspects of my Carribean experience.
