Hannibal Smith's Blog (15)

An Open Letter to the League of Extremely Ordinary (Ladies &) Gentlemen

Approximately three years ago, I posted an open thank you letter to the Spill Crew.  Korey had just had his famous on air meltdown and I wanted to put up something to tell him "Hey, at the end of the day, you've done a good thing."  I was honored to have the letter become my first featured blog on spill, and was thrilled by the tremendous outpouring of positivity as other spillios shared their own experiences and thoughts on what the site meant to them.

It is for that reason that I…

The Most Electrifying Twitter Response in Entertainment ...

Earlier today, I decided to tweet Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.  I asked him if he would be playing the "rhyming gourmet chef" Roadblock in the upcoming GI Joe film or if he'd do his own version.  I figured "Hey, why not?  It's not like he'll answer."  Well, actually ...

Random Review: Lindsay Lohan trying for the Man of Steel

There's a rumour going around cyberspace regarding casting for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman Reboot that ... let's be honest ... if there's any justice it's nothing more than some internet reporter trying to entertain themselves.

TMZ.com (as reliable a source of information as they are) has apparently been reporting that Lindsay Lohan is campaigning for a role in "Superman: Man of Steel."  She's allegedly supposed to "have had multiple conversations within the last few…

Random Review: Hitting the Thirties Really Ain't All Bad ...

Now, granted this ain't a movie review, but for recognition's sake I thought I'd stick with the title.

Today is my thirty-first birthday.  For many people, the thirties are that unpleasant age where people start thinking about how old they are, where their life is headed, yada yada yada and is essentially the age that nobody looks forward to.  Usually for me, age is just a number, but with the personal unpleasantness I've had going on (and the fact that, despite my best…

An Open Letter to the Westboro Baptist Church

Dear Westboro Baptist Church,

You know, at one time you guys were a great source of comedy for me.  Your ignorance and hate are so absurd that it’s actually funny.  Some of the best pictures I’ve seen on the internet are from counter-protests you inspire.  In short, your role of “ignorant fool jumping up and down at the back of the room” has been nothing if not…

Random Review: My Top Ten of 2010

As seems to be the trend around this time of year, I've put together my Top Ten Films of 2010 list.  Now, I feel I should point out that I'll be taking a slightly different tack with this list compared to other lists.  Where the standard "top ten of 2010" list will focus on films that were released in 2010, this one will instead focus on films that I *saw* in 2010, regardless of when they were released.  You're also going to see a fair number of ties as you move up the list.  In some cases,…

Random Review - "Transformers: Prime" Episodes 1-4

You know, growing up I was the toy industry's dream child. If your show was based around a set of toys, I wanted them all and I wanted them badly. Shows like G.I. Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, M.A.S.K. and so forth all hold an eternally special place in my heart. As such, if a new version of one of my favorite cartoons comes out, it gets the immediate benefit of the doubt.

Transformers: Prime, loosely based on both the novel "Exodus," and the game "War for Cybertron" is just such a… Continue

Random Review: The Needless Censoring of Katy Perry and Elmo

You know, a couple years ago I did this little video "show" on Youtube called "A Moment With The Mikeness" where I talked about the controversy surrounding a photo of Miley Cyrus that was taken for an issue of Vanity Fair:

Remember that big old public outcry about how…

Random Review: Thoughts on "Requiem For A Dream"

So every Saturday Night for me is "Pizza and a movie" night. Tonight, for some reason I decided I wanted to see "Requiem For a Dream." I've no idea why, but I had to see it, and I've just finished.

First and foremost ... WHAT THE FUCK?! Now, let me be clear, I mean that in a *good* way. I felt like Darren Aronofsky's (and kudos to you for doing this sir) film took my brain, put it in a blender, set the blender to "puree" and let it run for two… Continue

Random Review: An Open Letter To The Spill Crew

Dear Spill Crew,

It was almost one year ago that I was sitting at my computer one night and perusing videos on youtube. I was looking for Twilight parodies and happened to come across an animated review of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” The Spill.com animated review.

I’d recently taken my best friend to see the movie for her birthday. While she enjoyed…

Random Reviews: Hawaii 5 - 0 -- Pilot Episode

Now, in the interests of fairness, I need to start this review by stating that I missed roughly the first fifteen minutes or so of the Hawaii 5-0 remake. So, with that being said …

Hawaii 5-0 is a remake brought to us by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who have both writing and producing credits on the series. These gentlemen brought us such film remakes as “Star Trek,” “Transformers” and the good parts from “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (Shut up, it had good…

Random Reviews: Machete and Scott Pilgrim

Now, I've gotten ridiculously behind on these things, and I would very much like to take a second to apologize for that. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

With that out of the way, I'll start with the film I saw last night, "Machete:"

imdb summary: Three years ago in Mexico, determined Federale Machete (Danny Trejo) is betrayed and set-up by his boss, resulting in his wife and child being murdered by drug kingpin Torrez (Steven Seagal). Now, in Texas, Machete resurfaces… Continue

Random Review: Percy Jackson and the Olympians - The Lightning Thief

For those who haven't seen the movie, or are otherwise unfamiliar, here's the synopsis the Spill Crew posted with their review:

The son of Poseidon travels the Earth with the hopes of quelling a battle of the gods in this adaptation of the first book in Rick Riordan's best-selling children's book series. Veteran director… Continue

Random Review: The Crazies

Ever have one of those nights where everything just worked? The kind of night where everything just flows from one thing to the next and it all works out the best it possibly could for you? Last night was just such a night for me, highlighted with a free advanced screening of "The Crazies."

"The Crazies" is the story of a small town sheriff David Dutton (played by Timothy Olyphant doing his best Josh Duhamel impression) and his pregnant wife Judy… Continue

Random Review: Family Guy's "Something Something Something Dark Side"

Finally, the long awaited Family Guy parody of "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." With the high quality of "Blue Harvest" (it's my go to film on longish bus trips), I'd been looking forward to "Something Something Something Dark Side" for quite awhile. Unfortunately, while it is definately *good* Family Guy fare, it's not *great.*

From what I've seen of other reviews, the consensus would appear to be that if you're a Family Guy fan, you'll enjoy this and if you aren't, you won't… Continue
