Fun for Everyone?...Multiplayer and its issues.

Today this article is for part of a game that has seen a large growth in interaction: Multiplayer. When games were being made a lot of them didn’t have multiplayer mainly due to the limitations of the technology. Only a few did have multiplayer functions but that was very limited to one screen or console. Pong was the very first commercialised game that would sell multiplayer functions in games but even than it was limited to the same screen where the action was just hitting a pixel from one… Continue

Video games Voters needs YOU!!

Good evening or mourning to all.

Today I will only be writing in response to a huge issue. In USA California there is a legislation of the banning of videogames in the actions of games causing violence in soceity. I will tell you now there has not been a bad enough time when our beloved hobby is being attacked. I say now to all those for a small time to put down their xbox's and their PS3's and Wii's and join together to spread our message. I urge everybody to have their say on the… Continue

Remake Reboot Revolution

When a popular game or film franchise gets a remake or a reboot, fans of the film franchise or game will often cry outrage; after all, the popular franchise in question already has a fan base so why change the fans’ conception of perfection?

When a remake or a reboot is announced, many people believe that the rationale behind the remake is to act as a money generation scheme. Hollywood now has a reputation for churning out remakes of classical films but why? One reason may be that with an… Continue

‘Think of the Children…’ Moral Panics in the Media and Videogames

Violence in videogames have always been questionable since they become more advanced in graphics and portrayal. However, many people just consider that videogames achieve very little in children’s growth and condemn them being nothing more than a waste of time playing them rather than doing something creative and inventive. It is no wonder that the media seems to join the bandwagon of any events that lead to problems, easily blamed for any mindless violence uleashed by children and young… Continue

Rise of the Nerds- Nerdism, the Media and Society.

Ever felt once in your life that you were interested in a film or a televsion series that you loved but were afraid to talk to your friends about it? In todays society people who enjoy talking about their interests has always led to negative stereotying by the media. This affect has than made people catagorise people fanatically interested in something as a nerd. But really is being a nerd wrong? Is it wrong if you like something that makes you feel you want to quote every line of dialogue or… Continue

Trapped in a Nightmare that was created by Somebody else... Horror and why people love it.

The last horror film I saw was on Wednesday 1st September 2010 and it was Piranha 3D. After the film my mind was warped with horrible images and my stomach felt none the better. To put my mind off the images I went back home, turned on my PC and watched funny clips of cats (this shows how macho I really am). The day after I told my dad what I watched and he replied back with a question everybody asks “What is the point in them?” At first I didn’t take any thought at the time but later it made… Continue

I’m a big boy now…Video games and maturity

Today video games have now become part of the broad media market after so long under the shadow of their previous image of an industry aimed at children. Game corporations have made many great lengths to make them more mature to represent a broader audience. Thus the image of the video games industry has been literally screaming society that videogames are not just for children anymore (although they are still the crucial target audience). Indeed the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival… Continue
