Family Plot review (1976)

Posted May 5ht 2010

I always wondered why people always have to find excuses to call a last film by a master director his last masterpiece or at least try to do so. I don't even consider that as important as whether or not the film can really be declared a "insert director's name here" type of film, whether it truly feels like a true blue film from the director.

It's honestly the way that people try and view Family Plot since Hitch's passing many years ago. People will either… Continue

Date Night review (2010)

Posted May 2nd 2010

I'll admit that I fell for the previews like a variety of other people who went into this expecting a pretty decent popcorn type of comedy. I'm not going to lie, the scene in the preview of the guy turning the guy sideways and Steve Carrell shouting "Oh God he turned the gun sideways, it's a kill shot! It's a kill shot!," had me rolling on the floor.

You see both Steve Carrell and Tina Fey just have an excellent track record in my humble opinion. Sure I… Continue

Cut Mel Gibson a break already

Posted April 22nd 2010

As I remember the variety of images that are still with me months after I have gave something like Edge of Darkness a review , I remember not only the well developed (but not entirely perfectly structured script) but also the performance of Mel Gibson. Now i know that people have had some kind of rage filled hate against Mel Gibson for quite a while but I really wonder why that vendetta has kept people away from his films.

Do I agree with every… Continue

Leaves of Grass review (2010)

Posted April 13th 2010

No, this isn't an adaptation of the Walt Whitman novel for those expecting that when you walk into this film. No, this is a different beast entirely. Now from the trailers I am sure that you think that you ahve this pegged already, that this is yet another stoner comedy that for some odd reason has Edward Norton and Richard Dreyfuss in it for some odd reason. And while you would be right to insist that the film does indeed have comedic elements to it as…

Defendor review (2010)

I wonder how many people have went into this film so far from the trailer and came out pissed off that the film wasn't the neat little comedy that the trailer had indicated that it would be? You watch the trailer to this film and you realize that it has completely misinterpreted the film as a whole. That deep down, there are richer nuances inside that the trailer completely forgets to indicate.

Such is the case with the lesser known caped vigilante crusader film Defendor, another… Continue

The Ghost Writer review (2010)

There is just something about the current releases on mainstream movies these days that fills me with a certain amount of hope for the future. Now I know that people are generally going to be quite the cynics when it comes to the mainstream cinema these days but when you are me and you have had to experience your fair share of bland products in which and every single one was meant to be cheap seat fillers and you start to see films come out like Sin City then you can understand the excitement.… Continue

Hot Tub Time Machine review (2010)

Posted March 31st 2010

Now as I am writing this I am sure that a lot of people are watching the previews for this film or the trailer that has been shown for quite a while and are starting to think: why should i waste my time with this film? It looks stupid and cheesy. And to them I say, well if that is your opinion then this is not the film for you. I'm not saying that ina condescending way either. Because Hot Tub Time Machine is a stupid cornball cheese fest and it is for…

The Missing Person review (2009)

Posted March 26th 2010

The Missing Person is one of those films that you are either going to consider a little amazing gem of a film or you are going to call pretentious indie shit. After watching the film I can honestly say that there is no middle ground in my humble opinion. And I don't really think that it easily follows the rules of the so called film genre that it makes itself out to be from the previews, which I found quite fascinating.

To me, The Missing Person, while… Continue

Green Zone review (2010)

Posted March 25th 2010

Now I assure you good readers that I am not here to put my political opinions off on you regarding the current on going war on terrorism. That is not my style and I have nothing but a dark loathing hatred of the type of people who can and will do this. But Green Zone is a film that does take a political stance on the war on terror and if that is going to stop you from wanting to see the film then you should preferably stop reading this review and avoid…

The Descent 2 review (2009)

Posted March 20th 2010

You have just got to love horror films as a genre at times when you get great stuff like Cloverfield or The Ruins. But the love that a film fan can have for the genre can break your heart an equal amount of times as well. Great horror films aren't a common commodity in the mainstream theaters and more often than not when one comes it is an utter disappointment. It's why one has to appreciate a great mainstream horror title when it coems out and yet also…

Universal Soldier: Regeneration review (2009)

Posted March 15th 2010

To tell you the truth about Jean Claude Van Damme as an action star I have never really fully been a fan of him at the beginning He was a bit of a pretty boy back in the day, he could kick good but he never really had a compelling enough persona to really carry a film for me. He was just kind of bland and a bit of a blank, in other words he was the Vin Diesel of the late 80s and early to mid 90s.

His films were just a bit of a chore to sit…

Most anticipated films of this new year 2010

Posted Mar 15th 2010

Now I realize that this list is a little bit behind but sometimes it's better late than never and I will include previous films that have been relased earlier this year that I have yet to see as well.

Frozen

Plot: A typical day on the slopes turns into a chilling nightmare for three snowboarders when they get stranded on the chairlift before their last run. As the ski patrol switches off the night lights, they realize with…

The Secret in Their Eyes review (2009)

Posted March 9th 2010

I truly am quite proud that this was one of the select few that got the oscar nomination for best foreign film, let alone win the award, though I must admit that I have yet to view the other choices beyond this film and Michael Haneke's superb The White Ribbon.

To me, the foreign film market just represents a land of new ideas and possibilities of new worlds and fantasy lands or in other cases interesting slices of everyday average life that you may not… Continue

Shutter Island review (2010)

Posted March 9th 2010

There are some films that an average man just needs the proper time to digest and absorb, not for the film being faulty or poorly done but because they are the types of films that require proper respect and admiration, that leave a viewer drunk on the beauty that is cinema. Films like Apocalypse Now, There Will Be Blood, Gone with the Wind, they are the types of epics and films in general that have left me in a state of film high that only a great film can manage… Continue

The Crazies review (2010)

Posted March 08th 2010

I won't be surprised if this does rather well at the theaters. I really won't. Remakes like this generally were meant to do pretty damn good at the box office but to me as I watched this ina theater I was surprised that as entertaining as it is I an my friends had the same response: "Eh, who cares?"

Basically if you have seen the trailer you ahve seen the film basically and can almost automatically guess how the film is going to go through…

Cop Out review or The Most Appropriately Titled Film of the New Millenium By Far (2010)

Posted March 8th 2010

There are quite a few reasons why I watched this film. I will admit that. And number one is that if it has Bruce Willis as the star I will more than likely give it a view. You see Bruce Willis is the kind of movie star that I ahve always enjoyed watching,,.he is one of the last of what used to be en endless array of badass tough guy action stars such as Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone,…

Edge of Darkness review (2010)

Posted Feb 22nd 2010

Mel, I don't hold a grudge against you. As a matter of fact I forgive you for your past discretion, a drunken and racist tirade aginst the Jews to police officers who pulled you over fr driving inebriated. Now why do I forgive such behavior? Is it because it is Christian behavior to do so? Hell no, it's just in an age where an infamous and great film director can still be respected even though he knocked up an underage girl and anally raped her and fled…

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard review (2009)

Posted Feb 22nd 2010

So have you seen The Good? No? Well, you really didn't miss anything special. Now does this mean that it is among the ranks of the nutty dog turds like the Norbits (any current comedy with Eddie Murphy for that matter), Date Move (and all other films written by those writers), films that star Dane Cook, ect. But then again, it's not really hard to beat those films either.

The Goods wants you to believe that it is worthy to be among the many…

The decline of the great movie theater experience

So you want to know why great theaters and theater chains are going the crapper? Why don't people stand up and do something about it? Does it really have to be this way?

To me, it is the true appreciation that comes with watching great movies that has really been the drastic cause for this reaction. You cna argue all you want but really, why would you? Look at your average people that come into these film theaters these days and the people that watch movies…

The Secret of Kells review (2010)

Posted Feb 19th 2010

Ah, The Secret of Kells, one of the oscar nominated films that has recently been taking the oscars by storm and is now a runner up for best animated film alongside the likes of the Up, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline and The Princess and the Frog. For many, this is a film that has seemed to have came out of nowhere and they are most definitely quite curious about this film, as they should be.

The Secret of Kells is done in a fashion…
