First Trailer For 'The Hangover Part III'

As I said before, my anticipation for Todd Phillips' 'The Hangover Part III' is pretty tepid. I loved the first one, but the sequel was such a lazy rehash of the exact same beats that it was more annoying than funny. Now, the trailer for the third installment has arrived and, I have to say, I'm intrigued. It seems like…

Sploich Reviews Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)

In a southern delta community, a girl named Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) and her father Wink (Dwight Henry) live in separate homes made of pretty much whatever was lying around. As her father's health declines, the two live through a storm and a flood together as Wink tries to teach his daughter how to care for herself while she sets out to find her long-lost mother.

I don't really know where to start with this…

Sploich Reviews Wild Wild West (1999)

Allegedly based on the television show of the same name, which I have never seen, Wild Wild West follows Captain James West (Will Smith) and U.S. Marshall Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) as they are ordered by President Grant (also Kevin Kline) to stop Dr. Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh) and his plot to take over the United States government.

I think the first problem with this movie that I have to point out is the…

I can't even begin to express how excited I am about Quentin Tarantino's new film 'Django Unchained.' The guy's track record is nearly spotless with me and this seems like the perfect followup to 'Inglourious…

My top ten lists for films from 2001-2010 and game of the year 2000-2010

lists are fun, but I looked back at the other years and realize that hollywood and videogames are not dying at all. This shows my tastes in games and movies.

Review of Les Herb Folles

Les Herb Folles, a film by 88 year old director Alain Resnais, is a film that has fun and does not take itself seriously. Everything from the slapstick quick cuts of the policeman interrogation with the film’s male antagonist, Georges Palet, to the dreamlike superimposition of different scenarios that the characters think up in their head-the film uses a plethora of different filmic devices much like different ingredients of a complex recipe in order…

Where the wild things are: Gratefully surprised

Where the wild things are is the adaptation of the worldwide known kids book written by Maurice Sendak about he adventures of a young boy named Max who, after being sent to bed for misbehaving, imagines that he sails away to where the wild things are. Max is loved by the wild creatures who make him their King, though he soon… Continue

My Oscar Predictions

It's that time again, Oscartime! 2009 was a great year for films and the end to a great decade of movies. This was a year where there was something for everyone. The Hurt Locker appealed to the soldiers, The Hangover appealed to the frat boys, Where the Wild Things Are was the hipster movie of 2009, New Moon was loved by girls, Inglourious Basterds was a cinema lovers fantasy, and Avatar appealed to everyone else. With great movies throughout, and 10 best picture nominees, this will be an…

Tough Guys Gone Soft: A Cautionary Tale to Being a Hollywood Badass

every once and a while, hollywood receives its share of movie badasses, the rebels without a cause who represent the pinnacle of manliness. there were those like Marlon Brando, James Dean, and Clint Eastwood were able to showcase their acting chops to go along with their brute nature. and there were those like Stallone or Schwarzennegar who could kick ass and looked good infront of a bluescreen explosion. they werent necessarily good actors, but they were entertaining.

unfortunately,… Continue

My (Life In Chartreuse) Top 10 Films of 2009

As the year comes to a close, it’s time once again to look back on the year in film. There was a slew of great films to be seen, and ‘09 was a year dominated by sci-fi and animation. So without further ado, here are my favorite films from 2009.

10.) Avatar- Master director James Cameron's 3D sci-fi epic is engaging, gorgeous, and sets a new standard for visual effects and what can be done with animation. The Na’vi creatures… Continue

"Pandora Discovered" and Other Discovery Channel Specials

I was right. James Cameron’s Avatar is a hell of a lot deeper than some would believe. Discovery Channel has reported that real evolutionary science was used in constructing the world of Pandora. So much science was poured into it, that Cameron even had a four-minute conceptual documentary produced explaining the biology of Pandora that was narrated by Sigourney Weaver herself. Strangely enough, she narrated the pre-production short film in the same way that she narrated Discovery… Continue

Where the Wild Things Are REVIEW!

If I was to describe this film in a word, I would have to say its "childhood." The film is Spike Jonze's way of telling kids that childhood is a great time, but sooner or later; we all have to grow up. The main point of this film is set behind the idea of what it means to grow up and what it means to take your own temperature as a child. Spike Jonze nails so many sentimental and emotional beats that it just becomes such an inspiring a great ride into… Continue

Where The WIld Things Are Review

I must admit, I was one of the most excited people in the world about this movie. The trailer was absolutely fantastic, (You know, the one with Arcade Fire's Wake Up in the background?) and it looked like the movie might even get on some Top Ten Lists at the end of the year.

And the final product will still end up on a few lists, but not universally, and not for for the reasons we expected it to.

The problem with the movie,… Continue

Where the Wild Things Are

Welcome again to another one of Mike's movie reviews! This week, I went and saw Where The Wild Things Are. All I can say before I review it is that you have to keep in mind while watching this that it is a movie about a child's adventure -- not necessarily a children's movie.

The movie is very similar to the book in that it follows the adventures of Max as he sails away from home to the island the wild things live on. There he meets, befriends, and becomes the king of the…

Wild Things at "Wild Things"

I love my theatre. I really do. I may complain about working there, but I love my theatre for several more reasons. Topping that list for the longest time was the fact that the families that came to the theatre were responsible parents with well-behaved children. Not once did I have any of the horror stories I kept hearing about where kids would be acting crazy and wouldn’t shut up throughout the entire movie. And I was truly grateful for that, because it meant I could watch a family movie with… Continue
