Saw “Where the Wild Things Are” tonight and though it was on my to-see list I wanted to catch “Zombieland” as this is Halloween and all. But the local theater apparently has a difficult time keeping their website up-to-date and when I got there I had three choices: “Stepfather”, “This is It”, and “Where the Wild Things Are.” I think I made the right choice considering. So what did I think?
It’s actually a v… Continue

Finally, the Wild Things have arrived! This movie has been in development hell for at least ten years. Even as early as the early '80s this movie has been desperately trying to make it to the big screen. I mean the earliest trailer for it played in front of "Jim Carrey's How the Grinch Stol… Continue
If I was to describe this film in a word, I would have to say its "childhood." The film is Spike Jonze's way of telling kids that childhood is a great time, but sooner or later; we all have to grow up. The main point of this film is set behind the idea of what it means to grow up and what it means to take your ow… Continue

There's a one inside of us.
Max (Max Records) imagines running away from his mom and sailing to a far-off land where large talking beasts -- Ira, Carol, Douglas, the Bull, Judith and Alexander -- crown him as their king, play rumpus, build forts and discover secret hideaways. Voices by Chris Coop… Continue

I must admit, I was one of the most excited people in the world about this movie. The trailer was absolutely fantastic, (You know, the one with Arcade Fire's Wake Up in the background?) and it looked like the movie might even get on some Top Ten Lists at the end of the year.
And the final product will still end up on a few lists, but not universally, and not for for t… Continue

Welcome again to another one of Mike's movie reviews! This week, I went and saw Where The Wild Things Are. All I can say before I review it is that you have to keep in mind while watching this that it is a movie about a child's adventure -- not necessarily a children's movie.
The movie is very similar to the book in that it follows the adventures of Max as he sails away from home to the island the wild things live on. There he meets, befriends, and becomes the king of the wild things. From… Continue

Welcome to Video Game Equivalent, where I try to find you an equal to a movie, book, show, or comic in video game form.
To me, Where The Wild Things Are captures the feelings of youth and innocence. To capture such imagination and scope is a real feat. Wi… Continue
We all have the desire to scape the real world sometimes.
Because... plain and simple. Life is hard.
But, how do you explain this to a child?
Children are smart... almost too smart. But, they lack wisdom and experience at the same time.
So, when a piece of work comes out that is able to explain this to them just right...
It deserves to be looked at… Continue
To be perfectly honest, I have been sitting in my chair in front of my computer for about an hour now trying to write the best opening sentence that describes my undying love for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. Spike Jonze has been making this movie for a long time, fighting the studio in order to release his vision of what this film should be. I am sooooooooo happy that he won in the end otherwise we could've gotten a crappy kids movie with lame fart jokes and lame references to famous movies that k… Continue

Rotten Tomatoes has posted five clips from the new movie, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE based on the popular children's book of the same name, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world--a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler. The movie comes out October 16th, and the footage shown seem to indicate that the movie will be great.… Continue

Never usually write blogs in fact this may even a first for me but I wanted to write something that was in my mind for a while now and also signed on to here just today so might as well make an opportunity here.
After watching the newest trailer for "Where The Wild Things Are" this month (which looks awesome by the way), made me think about the original book and what it was like to read it when I was about Max's age and learning what the message of the story was which is about growing up. I rea… Continue

"I didn't want to wake you up, but I really want to show you something."
These are the only words spoken in the first official trailer for Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, but no more words were necessary to take me on a wild, joyous nostalgia trip. 'Where the Wild Things Are' was one of my favourite books when I was little (along with 'Goodnight Moon'), and my parents used to read it to me practically every night before I went to sleep. I was fascinated with t… Continue

For those who haven't seen the trailer yet, here it is:
This trailer looks awesome! I loved the book as a kid.BUT, like I have said before, this is JUST the trailer. I trust Spike Jonze; he is probably one of the best directors to get for a dark and very odd movie like this. But Jonze's directing style is the least thing I am concerned about. If anything, it… Continue
