Contraband Review

Rating-Matinee'   Contraband tells the tale of a legendary smuggler who is forced back into the business when a crook holds his wife and kid hostage. The script is well written, containing good dialogue and a good plot. The acting is also pretty good, and the film greatly benefits from Mark Wahlberg as…

People @ the Top of Their Game (3/26/11) Part 1

Since I'm trying to build an active community of readers, I do realize the writing-focused posts can be a little cold. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone (I hate that expression) by personalizing as well as expanding my base with a list I'm calling "People at the Top Of Their Game." Here, I'll be plugging some of my current favorite people in the media at the moment, which'll hopefully balance my criticisms in other posts with insight into what I enjoy. This probably won't be…

The Other Guys Review

Okay, I'm finally giving you another review. Then again, it shouldn't be all that surprising because this summer has been really lackluster and to the good advice of my go-to critic, C. Robert Cargill, I have managed to steer clear of most of the average-to-God awful summer films. It's just disappointing to see so many stinkers this year, especially compared to the last two summers. Now, is The Other Guys more like Anchorman and…

Last Year In Film/Great Scenes From Bad Films Part 9: The Happening

The Happening is a stupid, stupid movie. I don’t think anyone can deny that. In fact, it may just be the stupidest movie I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen Snakes on a Plane and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. It plumbs the depths of dumb in ways that few films have ever done before and for that, the M. Night Shyamalan deserves some credit. A few days before reviews for the film were posted online, M. Night said that The Happening was intended to be a B-Movie and I can’t help but call bullshit. If it… Continue

The Happening DVD review! (if you don't check out this post you will die in seven days!)

How many ways can I say brilliant? M. Knight does it again! After his smash hit with lady in the water I didn't think he could pull off another PERFECT film such as this one! This movie is about some sort of occurrence in which people stop dead in their tracks and start spouting beautifully artistic soliloquies before taking their own life, all against their own will. The film begins with one of these elegantly crafted sequences followed by a short educational scene, and then descends into… Continue

MAX PAYNE movie trailer..

Well, if you're a videogame fan you've probably played Max Payne 1 and/or 2, and you've probably also heard about the new Max Payne movie directed by John Moore (The Omen) starring Mark Wahlberg as the avenging cop who loses everything and Mila Kunis (That 70's Show) as Mona Sax..

From Imdb.com:

The SIGNS are not good for M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, 'The Happening'

I remember hearing M. Night Shyamalan interviewed on the Howard Stern show where he recounted his journey with his last movie, 'Lady In The Water'. Disney was ready to go with it but didn't really like the ending, which made him cry (no joke). After crying about it for a few days and searching his feelings, Shyamalan decided that Disney "didn't believe in the project" and he too it to Warner Bros., who was more than willing to give him complete creative control.
