The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review

Many people feared that this movie would be the equivalent of The Phantom Menace but for the younger generation of fans who grew up with The Lord of the Rings as their epic saga of nostalgia. The Strange Talent of Luther Strode Mini-series Review

This is a non-spoiler review of the first Luther Strode series.

The Trade's cover

First going into the Luther Strode, you may think it's Kick-ass with Superpowers, but if you look at just beneath the surface it's actually a variation of a Slasher flick disguised as Superhero origin. That is actually…

There's been a lot of 'Iron Man 3' news of late, but with 'The Avengers' now out of the way, it makes sense that attention is beginning to be focused on the next big Marvel movie in production. Recently, these images from the set were released that suggest that the Iron Man Patriot…

Watch The First Few Minutes Of 'Lockout'

I'm not the sort of person who likes to watch entire clips of movies online before I actually see them, especially those that reveal the film's opening sequence. However, far be it from me to deprive those that enjoy viewing these clips. To wit, we offer the first five (ish) minutes of 'Lockout.' This sci-fi actioner, co-written by …

New 'Avengers' Images Show Joss Whedon Bossing Around Superheroes

It takes major stones to direct any major studio film, but to direct a major studio film in which you tell Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and The Hulk what to do takes something much more...boulders, perhaps? Such is the case with Joss Whedon and what is possibly 2012's most anticipated film:…

A Real Human Being & a Real Hero (Drive Review)

I heard all the hype and surroundings about the movie. All the well-known movie critics in America praised this movie. Most of the YouTube movie review universe has praised this movie and some here on Spill have praised on it. Others say it was something like “The Fast and The Furious” or “The Transporter” or a rip-off of it.  Yeah, don’t listen to the…

Criterion Essentials Vol. 1

Ah the Criterion collection. Possibly the most addicting DVD collection ever? I say yes. With all the super cool packaging, special features, booklets, and all the other crap you could want. The only downside is that dang price tag. Last night i paid 24 bucks for The Blob and 32 dollars for Rushmore but i know it will all be worth it.

Lately i have been watching about 2 or 3 films in the Criterion Collection via public libraries. Some have been awesome some i will never know why… Continue

Favorite Musical Numbers in Movies that are Definitely Not Musicals (PART 2)

Basically this blog is a collection of scenes where characters break out into song and/or dance in movies that are horror, sci-fi, comedy, drama, but definitely NOT musicals!

For some reason, these are some of my favorite moments in films. Last time I left out a lot since there are way too many to put into just one blog! So I have decided to do a part 2 in order to name a few more. Also, please feel free to post any of your favorites I missed. In case you missed out on the previous… Continue

The Dark Knight - The Unexplained Moments

I love The Dark Knight. I don't think anyone was more excited about the DVD/Blu-Ray release than I was. Hell, you should check out my room (Four Dark Knight posters, and a life-size Joker stand-up). Maybe I'll take pictures of them later, but anyways! I'm a huge fan of the film, and when I popped in the Blu-Ray last night I was thrilled to finally see the film on my television screen.

That being said, there are some unexplained moments in the film that I just don't get. Here is a… Continue

Great Scenes From Bad Films, Part 7: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

I love the Friday the 13th films to an almost psychotic degree but even I will admit that most of them are not good films. Fun films to be sure, but not good films. I’m not entirely sure exactly why I like them so much, there’s just something about the silent, plodding killer that I love so much. That and the sheer stupidity of the characters he kills. Perhaps my favourite example of this is in one of the earlier films. I’m not exactly sure which but I think it might be number… Continue

Great Scenes From Bad Films, Part 6: Pumaman

Ok, I promise, tomorrow will not be a movie featured in MST3K. In fact, it’ll be a super awesome Halloween special edition of Great Scenes from Bad Films! Awesome. But Mari Nickl reminded of Pumaman and I just had to include it. It was another great Mike era episode and this film really deserved the MST3K treatment. Allow me to elaborate.

The film opens with a paragraph regaling us with the Aztec legend of a God descending from the heavens, fucking an Aztecette and fathering the… Continue

Great Scenes from Bad Films, Part 5: Hobgoblins.

As with yesterdays entry into the hallowed halls of shit cinema fame, this entry came to my attention through the stellar work of the crew at Mystery Science Theater 3000. This film was in what is possibly my favourite of the Mike era episodes, in fact it would probably be my favourite of all episodes if not for Manos. Everything about this episode is great, the riffs, the host segments with classics like Crow’s ‘In Search Of…’ style programme about women to the cardboard cut-outs of the crew… Continue
