Life of Pi Review

The biggest part of the magic of movies is its ability to transport us wherever it wants us to go as we willingly give up a couple of hours of our life to see worlds that none have experienced or seen before. 3-D is commonly used nowadays as a way to grab the audience and say that they can be that much closer to the…

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose (2005) Review

Rating-Full Price!!

How often do we get a film that truly gets you to think about your religion, how often do we get a horror film that doesn't rely on gore for its scares. Well, that is the case with the Exorcism Of Emily Rose. Half of the movie takes place in a courtroom, where…

Rant-Homophobia

I honestly don't understand why being LGBT is so frowned upon by certain people. I don't even consider religion a valid excuse.Religious texts like the bible say that being homosexual is an "abomination",but gives no reason to back it up.Other stories in the bible actually explain WHY certain things are wrong, like coveting your neighbor's wife. But being gay is just bad because it is.

Sometimes even people who aren't even religious have prejudices against gays. Like my…

Red State Review

Red State is a film that I have been highly anticipating ever since it was announced several years ago. Add on the Sundance Film Festival fiasco where Kevin Smith purchased the film himself and took it on a nationwide tour, it made me even for excited for the Video-On-Demand release on September 1st. And to top off that…

What About Gay Politicians?

I tend to skim a bit when I'm reading blog articles as I'm sure many of you readers do with mine. I especially do this with Psychology Today. There's a ton of bullshit on that site, so I've accustomed to scanning for known sources, keywords and names that are generally unreliable. The only reason I…

The Book of Eli: Not What People Think

This post will have spoilers in it. It is also not a review, but a thesis on the meaning of the film.

Many people are saying that The Book of Eli is a pro-Christian film. Respectfully, I disagree. This is not the rantings of some extremist Christian, but thoughts from one who knows the subject matter. Let's start with this: Why did Carnegie want the Bible in the first place? Not for its message, but to control people. He knows that as long as people think what he says is coming from… Continue

The Avatar of 'Avatar' - Exploring Personal Identity, Becoming God, and the Na'vi

DISCLAIMER AND SPOILER ALERT

I originally had something more academic written for this entry, but after seeing the film, I deleted it. It’s not because of how the information I originally had did not correlate with the topic. It’s because the film actually contributes and explains the academic aspects of what an avatar is in a way that’s easy to understand. Almost insultingly so. If anything, my original write up was more or less redundant in the…

Madness Mark thinks "Evangelion 1.0 - You Are (Not) Alone" needs an upgrade

Congratulations, you bitchy Evangelion fanboys, you got your movie. Evangelion 1.0 is probably one of the most faithful movie adaptations you'll ever get (or at least one you'll bitch the least about). It follows the original story, makes no drastic changes, updates the animation while not disturbing the designs, and it even keeps the same shots. This is the perfect movie for a hardcore Evangelion nut. As for a casual fan like me, it couldn't be more… Continue

Madness Mark wants a different End of Evangelion

We’ve been seeing a trend in Hollywood lately; if fans don’t respond well to a movie, it is possible to salvage it by hitting the reset button. It’s been done with Batman and The Hulk. What we have here is an interesting case of hitting the reset button not on a Japanese animated TV show to go back and redo not the entire series, but the last two episodes. It would be like if they made a movie that redid the last episode of The Sopranos, but… Continue

'Religulous' Review

For Once It's Okay To Talk About Religion

When religion is brought up as a topic of discussion or debate it is instantly labeled as taboo because most of us “just don’t want to go there”. Bill Maher, on the other hand, isn’t afraid to tackle the topic head on in his film Religulous, a hilarious documentary… Continue
