I’ve got my fingers crossed in hopes that Astro Boy will turn out okay, but let’s face the facts - after watching most films based on manga or anime’ titles, fans generally wish that the character had stayed on the page or the tube. Today we’ll look at some of the attempts to bring previously published or animated properties like Astro Boy to the big screen and deem them EPIC or FAIL. Here we go…

Park Chan Wook (my favorite director), the man that brought us "The Vengeance Trilogy" is about to reveal his vision of everyone's favorite, blood-sucking, soulless creatures!
He even takes time to give us his take on the American remake of his classic film "OLDBOY".

SEOUL (Reuters) – The South Korean director who won the Grand Prix at Cannes for "Oldboy," a film that gave revenge a fresh and disturbing twist, returns to the festival with a movie that puts another Hollywood st… Continue

MTV spoke with Will Smith about his involvement in Steven Spieldberg's adaptation of the manga classic, 'Oldboy'.
With the film and the original manga well-known for their disturbing themes — a crucial plot point involves incest — and graphic violence, is the typically family-friendly Spielberg up to the task of staying true to the dark,… Continue
SOUTH SHORE @ THE CINEMA: THE COFFIN REVIEW
The first movie of New Year was an interesting choice. I went into this thinking it was a J-Horror. Something we’ll see remade 16 months later. Not so. In fact, The Coffin isn’t a J-Horror at all. Already released in its home country of Thailand where it smashed opening day records for horror movies. The previous titleholder Shutter (remade this year) was made by the same director. Ekachai Uekrongtham parodies J Horror movies at best. Ma… Continue

The reaction to the announcement that Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were remaking Chan-Wook Park's 'Oldboy' was pretty negative.
Filmschoolrejects ran into Will Smith who says that this film will not be a remake of Park's original but instead will be an adaptation of the original graphic novel.
I hope that if your reading this then you already know. But fear not young spillions, you can still read this blog. If you haven't seen Oldboy, go watch it, and you'll know its been done too well to be remade by Senior Spielbergo. I have a deep love for this movie. Its cool, action-packed, brutal and cruel, all in one. It translates so retardedly well for a non-english speaking film.

Last night, my mum and I finished up watching the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I had noticed something about it: It does the tactic of "the less you see, the scarier/creepier it is". I admire that kind of tactic still being used these days, espicaly in a world with Hostel and Saw. So, allow me to go over films that to the tactic. Waring though: The following post contains spoilers from films, so you've been warned.
Saw (2004).

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are in early discussions to collaborate on a remake of Chan Wook-park's Oldboy, says Variety. DreamWorks is in the process of securing the remake rights, and the new film will be distributed by Universal.
In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he's released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge.

Hollywood can't get enough of the remakes. And it looks as though Steven Spielberg has his eye on the Korean film,Oldboy. His star? No, not Shia LeBeouf this time. Will Smith.
In case you're unfamiliar, Oldboy follows a man who is imprisoned for 15 years for some unknown reason. When released he vows to have his revenge.
In my opinion it's on of the greatest revenge films ever made.

Oldboy might be one of the best movies of all times! It's got everything: gore, sister titie licking, violence, daughter fucking, and, yes, a dude jerking off to his daughter on TV without knowing it's here. Great stuff.
Well, when I heard that there is a thematic prequel I almost po… Continue
