To me the most depressing death of this year was John Hughes. I was born right when the 80's ended but was still bought up on films such as Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and of course The Breakfast Club.
I currently work as a music journalist and one of the best parts about it is I get to interact with alot of musicians. I was meant to shoot Phoenix here in NYC earlier this week (i shot the band prior this year in September @ Central Park) but couldn't due to a class but that didn't… Continue

We all know about The Wizard of Oz and The Dark Side of the Moon but what about other soundtrack Synchronization to a movie like The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Well I did do that by listening to the Der Ring Des Nibelungen Opera Ring Cycle by Richard Wagner even though Professor Tolkien would roll over his grave if he heard I synch the music up with the films because he hated that Opera, but it felt right for the Norse and Celtic mood of the story.

Rockabilly Vampire...Just the name of the movie gives me a pretty bad head ache. The film was constantly there mocking me every time I went through the instant watch section of Netflix. I saw it and it called to me, telling me to… Continue

For those that don't know, I collect hip-hop samples as a hobby. I'm still up to my old tricks and here are a few samples that I came across recently for any music lovers reading this. If you want to hear the whole song then try iTunes or YouTube.

There are a lot of elements that go into making a movie: writing, directing, cinematography, acting, costumes, special effects, locations, editing, etc. But what I feel is one of the most overlooked, and sometimes lacking, elements of a movie is the score. Sometimes the score is upstaged or even drowned out by popular songs inserted into the soundtrack. Take Watchman, for example, a film which had about forty minutes of composed music that never made it into the film, no doubt making room for ro… Continue

I feel weird reviewing a Japanese Blu-ray, but I feel the need to do so with this one. I also feel weird about reviewing what is essentially a concert on DVD with little to no extra content outside of a few piece of bonus material that hasn’t made its way to YouTube yet. Then again, I just feel weird about reviewing a program that you don’t have to watch to appreciate.
I am, of course,… Continue
Hey what up, you pimped out players from the streets? This is Kiz from the "Kiz and Root show", and I felt like showcasing some of my friends music. Why you ask?... because I'm cool like that.
The first Band I want to talk about goes by the name of Zen Robbi. These guys have been playing tog… Continue

I was first introduced to the "band" Escape the Fate at the Black on Black tour, a couple years ago. I had never heard of Escape the Fate before and after that show I wish I hadn't. Don't get me wrong, Escape the Fate is okay if you're into that kind of music (post- hardcore/screamo/grind-core), whatever you want to call it, but for me It's very rare that I like a band from that genre. Ever since that show I never heard from that band again until recently when my friend Thomas played me a song f… Continue
So you know how I said that the next ‘illustrated’ review I posted was going to be for predator?
I lied.
Instead, here’s a mammoth piece of doodled drabble waxing on about a music festival I was at a couple of weeks ago. Yeah. This fails on so many levels.

don't believe the hype; it doesn’t always rain in scotland. In fact, i don't think i've ever seen quite so much sun burn and peeling skin as i did at t in the park, the north's answer to reading music festival. okay, so tickets did cos… Continue

I don't normally write reviews, so I can't exactly say i'm deviating from the usual formula, but with a film so seemingly geared towards a particular audience like this, you can't give a straight forward, "regular" review that will satisfy everyone.
So I will split it up into sections based on the "types" of people who will see this movie. These will be based off common sense, and my friends who came with me to see the movie.
But first some small facts to clarify, yes, this i… Continue

Despite my initial excitement upon reviewing the Japanese version of Ponyo, Disney has found a way to kill it for me.
I present, for your consideration, the original Japanese theme of the movie. Be warned, if you don’t like the singing of children, don’t bother listening to either of these tracks.
And now, here’s the English/Disney version that was released this weekend as part of their… Continue
Once (2006) is about a guy and a girl; literally, those are the character names. Guy is played by Glen Hansard (The Frames) and Girl is acted by Markéta Irglová (The Swell Season). It could be categorized as a musical because much of the story is told through their music; although it is not like a traditional musical. I would call it a movie with a lot of amazing and emotional music. Glen and Markéta are accomplished musicians in real life and complete once in a lifetime explosive performances o… Continue

Reading a book and then seeing the film can actually can kinda ruin a film for you. You know whats gonna happen and you don't really have much of a on the edge on your seat feeling of what's gonna happen next.
The plot of High Fidelity centers on Rob Gordon (John Cusack), a self-confessed audiophile whose flair for understanding women is less than par for the course. After getting dumpe… Continue

Hello fellow Spill users
I usually hate to admit that I'm wrong, but in this case I have to.
A few months ago I wrote a review for Magical Mystery Tour, a movie about The Beatles doing random acts of craziness for an hour. If you don't want to read it, I'll give you the short version:
I Hated It
But now........I..........like it. I don't love it, I just like it.
On reflection, Magical Myst… Continue
