Today is a special day, for I get to review two movies in one edition. The Master, which has Oscar’s written all over the film for, best acting (Joaquin Phoenix), best supporting actor (Philip Seymour Hoffman), best screenplay, and finally best director (P.T. Anderson). I also have a comedy that has singing, dancing, and some Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect.

Halo Reach review...

If you call me out for being overly sentimental to the point of zealotry, I wouldn't care. This franchise is near and dear to me. Once in a while, there comes along a story that ingrains itself in a generation. For mine, it's Halo. Released back in November 15, 2001, Halo took the gaming world by storm. It was a sprawling Sci-Fi epic that gave players the mysteries of a dead alien race, a bloody war, and some of the… Continue

KoS Top Ten Kung-fu Films of All Time

Any all time list is going to be limited to what you've seen; what you can vouch for. Now I've seen nearly a hundred martial arts films so I'm pretty confident in my list, but we'll see. It's entirely possible that I could be embarrassed by one or two of my choices a few years from now. Martial arts films are exploding in popularity all over the world, and we're seeing more great films from places we've never seen them before. The last generation of big name martial artists are growing older… Continue

Great Scenes from Bad Films, Part 4: Manos: The Hands of Fate

Like most people out there who have seen Manos: The Hands of Fate (Translation: Hands: The Hands of Fate) I became aware of it through Mystery Science Theater 3000. The episode is held in high regard amongst the shows fans and rightly so. It is, after all, awesome. Some of my favourite riffs I heard in the shows history come from this episode, as do some of my favourite segments. Such a thing is only possible with the just the right film, and Manos is just such a film.

Every frame is… Continue

The Happening DVD review! (if you don't check out this post you will die in seven days!)

How many ways can I say brilliant? M. Knight does it again! After his smash hit with lady in the water I didn't think he could pull off another PERFECT film such as this one! This movie is about some sort of occurrence in which people stop dead in their tracks and start spouting beautifully artistic soliloquies before taking their own life, all against their own will. The film begins with one of these elegantly crafted sequences followed by a short educational scene, and then descends into… Continue
