Ranking the Gotham Rogues: The Best and Worst of Christopher Nolan's Batman Villains

Of all the superheroes in all the world, Batman is one of the most iconic and legendary. Why is that? Is it his great fortune? His ultimate humanity? His unique symbol or quest for justice? Or is it partly the fact that he has spawned some of the greatest villains in all of modern literature, never minding their origins in comic book form? Yes, it is safe to say that Batman's rogues' gallery is arguably the greatest in all of comic books simply because each villain has a fascinating thing…

The Dark Knight Rises Review

Four years of build-up can do quite a lot. It gets the people pumped to see what's going to happen next, it raises the expectations considerably since the team behind the film is taking their time and since it's the end, people desperately want to know the fate of all…

The Avengers Review

When the Avengers truly assembled for the first time in San Diego two summers ago, Robert Downey, Jr. boldly stated that this film was "the most ambitious movie [he's] ever seen", even over the phenomenon that was Christopher Nolan's Inception. It has taken four years to develop the main…

50/50 Review

Trying to find humor in such a horrifying situation as having cancer or having someone that you love suffer with cancer is an incredibly tough thing to do but credit must be given to Seth Rogen, Jonathan Levine, Will Reiser and everyone else involved in the making of this film for pulling it off tremendously. This is a concept that could've gone horribly wrong if it was made in the wrong hands but the movie and the filmmakers know what they're attempting to do and therefore the story manages…

A Personal Farewell to a Personal Hero

Man, this is truly a sad day for me now that Carlyle is leaving Spill as a regular Spill Crew member permanently. For the four years that I've had to watch, read, and listen to the musings of this fine and articulate man, he's been at my side for arguably the four most arduous years of my life thus far. Even though Spill was founded in 2006, I never really got exposed to the site until 2007 when I was interested in seeing reviews on YouTube in its VERY early days and…

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review

I have to say that I've never had a viewing experience quite like seeing the Transformers trilogy unfold before my eyes. Four years ago, I saw a teaser for a movie that seemed to look like a big space movie about astronauts on Mars but then I saw that it was for Transformers. I immediately scratched my head but unlike most film fans out there, when "A Michael Bay Film" appeared underneath, I quickly switched my judgment about the movie and got curiosity and excitement…

The Dark Knight Rises: The Key to the Next Landmark Film Trilogy?

Well, fanboys around the world are hotly anticipating the third and final act in the grandest story Gotham has ever presented us in the form of Christopher Nolan's Batman/Dark Knight trilogy. This movie has been speculated about for about two and a half years and its only now that it's getting made (and made the right way) which is forever in fanboy terms nowadays when it comes to waiting about any official…

Caleb Kahn's Thoughts on the Nominees for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award

Well, as Oscar season comes ever closer to doing the big reveal when it comes to nominations, the select five nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star Award for the BAFTAs have been announced and for the most part, I'm very impressed and it's a select group of actors that's hard for me to pick over the other when it comes to who's the best or who has the most promise. Now, when it comes to this award, it's only been given out five previous times since the very thing that inspired it was…

Inception Review

Oh, man. I can't even really describe what this film is about without getting into details. So, to deviate from my routine would be to write a spoiler-filled review and that would be a sacrilege because it is best to go into this movie with as little to know as possible. Do not read plot synopses, do not look up spoilers, do not look up ANYTHING before you go see this movie. Now, I'm…

Are We Seeing the Death of Originality in Hollywood Movies?

All right, I've wanted to do this blog for a very, very long time. It's a question that ponders the mind of every movie fanatic on the Internet especially the ones on sites like Ain't It Cool News, Cinematical, CHUD, and Spill Movie Reviews. Are we seeing the slow death of originality in film? Well, I'm going to try and guess the answer as best as I can.

I would say that we are not really experiencing a "death" of originality, it's more or less a period where movie studios are being… Continue
