If my avatar is any indication, I'm of one of many comic book readers who have helped make "Chew" the surprise hit of the year, at least in terms of comics. Writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory's tale of a Cibopathic (having the ability to get psychic readings from anything that one eats) cop who's recruited into the FDA (the most powerful law enforcement agency in this comic's reality) is…

I went both ways with liking and disliking 2012. there were a lot of things that I liked about the movie. the breathtaking visual effects were really extraordinary. defiantly one of the best effects I seen all year. I had a lot of fun with this movie. It was never boring at any time, and t…

2012: The Not Too Serious Apocalypse?
By Reymundo Salao
[justanotherfilmjunkie.blogspot.com]
Most of Roland Emmerich’s movies have been mostly reminiscent of the 70’s disaster movies like The Towering Inferno or Poseidon Adventure. These disaster movies are essentially survival horror, wherein we are introduced to main characters that we are supposed to root for and follow as they try to survive a peril or perils that could kill them. This movie more or less combines all of it for something whi…

2012.
I did enjoy it, though, like Leon, I actually got bored from it after a while. It dragged much too long. The first 30-40mins or so, were the most enjoyable scenes in the whole film. The overblown special effects, with moments where you just want to yell "YOU LUCKY SON OF A BITCH!" at the screen- but in a good way. I was almost in tears from how crazy that scene was where John Cusack was driving through California with a limo packed with his family.
Really, when they're trying to escape the…

Most people recognize John Krasinski as the affable desk jockey in the NBC hit series 'The Office'. You might even recoginze him in his many movie roles acting next to big names such as George Clooney in 'Leatherheads' or recognize his voice in 'Monsters vs. Aliens'. Behind the name, however, is a…

I Hate Valentine's Day is a movie about a lonely woman falls in love on the day she dreads the most and experiences all the elements of a relationship, from chance meeting through divorce, within the space of a single February 14th. What can I say, if the movie's name is I Hate Valentine's Day, well I hate I hate Valentine's Day. This is by far the corniest movie I ever seen in my life. Maybe women will enjoy all the cheesy situations the leading character has and experience throughout the movie…

Another decade has passed since John Connor (Nick Stahl) helped prevent Judgment Day - the day the Skynet program was fated to became self-aware and destroy mankind. But August 29, 1997 came and went without incide…

Turks are so evil.
A young American Billy Hayes (Brad Davis) is arrested in Turkey for smuggling hashish and then is sentenced to unreasonable time in a hellish Turkish prison, where he begins to self-destruct, until he musters the courage to plan his escape.
This film was based on the book from the real Billy Hayes, and it shows just how crazy you can…

Sam Mendes takes the indie road.
Away We Go is a film about a young couple who are expecting their first child. After learning that the child's paternal grand parents are moving away, the couple decides they have no reason to remain in their rural town, and begin visiting family and friends across the United States and Canada to try to find the perfect place to raise their soon-to-be…

Very first Gen-X romantic comedy.
A budding romance between noble under achiever Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) and high school valedictorian Diane Court (Ione Skye) is threatened when Diane's overly possessive, disapproving father (John Mahoney) interferes with their relationship. With a prized scholarship to study abroad hanging in the balance, Diane must find a way to make both men happy.…

This has been on mind for quite a while. I always wondered what would certain Disney Animated classics would look if big named and important directors got a hold of them, for good or ill. The following is would be taglines for their posters. Most of these taglines are borrowed from each of the director's own film posters. There are some that I tweaked a bit to fit with the film, others I left alone because it fit the film.
If The Coen Brothers directed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?…

There are a lot of elements that go into making a movie: writing, directing, cinematography, acting, costumes, special effects, locations, editing, etc. But what I feel is one of the most overlooked, and sometimes lacking, elements of a movie is the score. Sometimes the score is upstaged or even drowned out by popular songs inserted into the soundtrack. Take Watchman, for example, a film which had about forty minutes of composed music that never made it into the film, no doubt making room for ro…

It’s not often that one gets to see independent films in my neck of the woods. Usually the university cinema will have a student’s short film festival, but they usually play the night before an exam. As such, Dogs of Chinatown was the first full length independent feature I was able to sit in on. When I first heard about this film, it was all I could do not to jump u…

The Happening is a stupid, stupid movie. I don’t think anyone can deny that. In fact, it may just be the stupidest movie I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen Snakes on a Plane and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. It plumbs the depths of dumb in ways that few films have ever done before and for that, the M. Night Shyamalan deserves some credit. A few days before reviews for the film were posted online, M. Night said that The Happening was intended to be a B-Movie and I can’t help but call bullshit. If it wa…

There are tales as old as time. Tales of bravery, of good versus evil, of kings and wizards. Then there are tales of people with plastic personalities, wearing plastic armour and fighting with plastic weapons against men in rubber suits who move as if there balls are always uncomfortably caught in their underwear. Uwe Boll’s In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is the latter.
I suppose I should begin by saying I’ve never played Dungeon Siege so I have no idea how faithful this film is…

Hey Friends,
I arrived in Austin at 4pm roughly. It was a nice flight with a very cute girl sitting next to me by the name of Natalie. Her brother Ben was in my row as well and the three of us spoke almost the entire way about movies, pop culture, the internet, where we come from, what we do for a living. Basically we just made small talk, but it was extremely natural small talk and we exchanged numbers when the flight was over. They were busy on Saturday so I invited them to come to the BBQ o…

Dawn of the Dinosaurs is the third movie of the Ice Age series. In this one we follow how's life treats our three main characters, Manny expecting the birth of his first baby with Ellie, Diego feeling frustrated because he has no adventure in his life anymore and Sid thinking that no one cares about him. When Sid finds three dinosaur eggs and take them with him is when the adventure begins. The movie is funny from the beginning till the end, an hour and a half of pure entertainment. The animatio…

Wow, just… Wow…
Yesterday was really slow. I mean, really slow! It mostly has to do with the fact that school is starting back up, so our summer demographic has stopped coming during the day. That means more picky seniors during the day and less teens. (Although, with
District 9 coming out today on a half-day for high schools, things could get busy.)
During these slow periods, I often use the popcorn warmer as a display case to show our popcorn bag sizes and how much popcorn they…
