How Lucas Fired The Projectionist

A lot of people blame this man for ruining a beloved franchise.  I blame him for something more damaging.

While watching Hugo, I realized that he is the man responsible for firing the projectionists.  As I once talked about before, the movie theater industry has been pushing…

Regal Cinemas' "Go Big Or Go Home" Bumper - What are guys trying to say?!

With all this talk about how the movie theater industry is losing money and theories being posted as to why, it's a wonder if any of the major movie theater companies are going to change up their act.  And from my unique perspective, I can say with some confidence that they probably won't.…

Johnny Depp's 'The Lone Ranger' Not Dead After All

In what has become one of the more annoyingly waffling stories in Hollywood, it has been reported that Disney’s 'The Lone Ranger' is now officially back in production. Recently the plug was pulled on the project, we thought for good, mostly over disputes with the budget; said to be nearing $300 million. But now it appears that a compromise has been made and the film will now move forward with a measly (yeah…

Don't criticize an EA Developer! They can't take it!

It appears that the game developers at EA can't take criticism of any sort, be it a rage-filled spewing of hateful words or a civilized and constructive short story examination of their product.

Last Thursday (September 22, 2011), EA released a demo for their upcoming Sims 3 Pet expansion.  Anxious users downloaded the software from EA's Origins store, their digital distribution program.  Upon launching the game, the demo would screw up any saved data associated with their…

"Portal: No Escape" Fan Film Gets Hollywood Industry's Attention

A few days ago, I posted a short entry sharing the fan film "Portal: No Escape."  Since then, some interesting facts have been turning up about the short, which has surpassed the production quality of most fan films out on YouTube currently.

Universal Drops 'Clue' Movie - Private Funding the Future of Board Game Franchises?

While there are still a slew of board game-based films on the horizon, it seems like the death knell may finally be ringing. Or is it? Universal Pictures has…

L.A. Noire and the Future of Motion Capture

One of the games I’m looking forward to the most but will ultimately not be able to play is L. A. Noire. (I lack a PS3 at this point, and the game won’t be coming out on PC. Not like my computer can handle it, but still, it would be nice.) What I’m looking forward the most from this title, however, is the technology behind it and where it will go in the future of not only game design, but in entertainment production in general.

For those of you out there who don’t know what the… Continue

The (Possible) Future of the Movie Theatre

I tend to hear a lot of things at work. Rumors, gossip, fact, fiction, praise, and complaints. But I just had a whole bunch of new information about the possible future of the theatre industry shoved down me all at once recently that I found very interesting. Unfortunately, most of the consumers out there don’t know about these plans.

Now, granted these plans won’t happen for another few decades, if even then. But it does make you think when you hear the what’s and the why’s to some of… Continue

From Iron Man to Scott Pilgrim - Summer Movies from an Usher's Point of View

If there’s one thing I can safely say without many people arguing against me, it is that this summer season at the movies sucked. I mean, really sucked. Both in business and in what movies came out.

I should also preface this by saying this is the observations from the theatre I work at and do not necessarily reflect the business of other theatres around the country, especially those where the bulk of the studio’s money is made like LA and NYC. The reason I’m even typing this… Continue

Hollywood's New Buzzword: Racebending

RACEBENDING - verb, a practice referring to a situation or series of situations where a movie studio, or similar visual media entertainment industry outlet, has changed the ethnicity of a character in the adaptation of another creative work, causing the under representation of a cultural community and actors from said community.

Okay, so the term is technically a made-up word by the group that created… Continue

State of the Anime Industry = Not Good

In last couple of years, it seems as though the anime gravy train has come to a screeching halt, destroying several anime distribution companies. First, there was Geneon (formerly Pioneer Entertainment). Then, there was Central Park Media. And now in this press release it seems that ADV Films is through, which is odd considering they just got done picking up… Continue
