Okay, so I compiled a short list of games that'll offer you some fun for a cheap price. All of these games are or are close to a year old, but hell, they're still fun.
1.) Crackdown
Genre: Free-Roam, Shooter
This game is fu**ing badass. You play as a superpowered cop who can jump to extreme heights, aim with crazy precision, lift cars, kick people down a city block and more. The story is... nothing. There isn't a story. You're just clearing out a city of mob bosses in three distinct (very large…

With the somewhat downbeat stories of
Grand Theft Auto IV and
The Lost and Damned, it's nice to see Rockstar opt for a lighter-toned (although not by much given that this is still a GTA IV game) installment to cap off the GTA IV downloadable episodic content with a celebration of explosions and wackos.

Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony…

I Want The Games To End
For the last few days, Lionsgate has been releasing a lot of material for the sixth installment of the
Saw franchise. As usual, I've been getting pumped up to see what lies ahead for these characters, but I've mostly been excited becau…

With the recent announcement of an Asteroids movie I got to thinking, what other classic gaming franchises could make a kick ass movie? I know that most video game movies so far have been piles of dog shit but I still have hope that if the right franchises are done well (and not made by fox) video game adaptions could be really awesome. So I compiled this quick list to display my top 5 choices:
5. Jak & Daxter

I went to the 2009 Scottish Festival and Highland Games this month. Can I just say that small urge for a fun romp in the barn has now grown by 250%. I mean, I had to take cold showers all weekend because of the wonderful sights I got to experience. Namely young and beautiful men running around on an incredibly windy day in kilts. Everywhere. It was like a weekend of eye-candy for me! I was in a very happy place and cannot wait for next year!
We had a group of four this year (last year it was ju…

Prototype is an open-world action thriller conspiracy. That sentence pretty much sums up the entire game.
First, as always, the good. The action of Prototype, what it's all about, is pretty damn crazy and chaotic. Never too chaotic, just plain chaotic. The number of people on screen is awesome, usually about 100-200 people on screen at one time, all for you to brutally murder with a number of different weapons. The weapons in this game are bad-freakin'-ass, including an extendable razor-sharp w…

Today I watched the movie Ghost Game, an old horror movie that is alot of fun, despite the stupidity behind the premise.
This movie is about a group of college graduates who go out for a camping trip at a lake, after hanging out they discover a board game that is a little more than they asked for. After 2 deaths, they find that there is much more riding on the game than they originally anticipated. The survivors now try to find a way to finish the game, and get off the island.
The movie was ob…

Oh, look! A new Volition game! Great, I'll hopefully get what I expect from the Saints Row developers: Gore, language, drugs and nudity!
Nope. Guerilla is SR's estranged cousin that never liked to hang out with him. This game doesn't stray too far from the Saints Row formula, having you complete side-missions to go onto the next story-related mission, but this game takes itself way more seriously than Saint's Row. The story goes: You are Alec Mason, a simple man from Earth looking to the red pl…

Damn you, Damnation, for making me play that same mining level over and over and over... and over and over... Well. Onto the review. This game is a sort of "What if?" scenario, and the basic story outline is cool, but overshadowed by random weirdness. The game takes place in the Civil War, but in an advanced, Steam-punk age. Halfway through the war, William Prescott introduces new Steam-punk weaponry, and continues the war 40 years after it should've ended.
So, lets start with the positives: Th…

I just watched a video on G4tv's website about Heavy Rain and it has me psyched!
..for lack of a better word.
For the past two years E3 has been a snooze fest (though I wish I was invited ) but, with games like this and a few others seems like just what the show needs to pull itself back into popularity.
G4, a few websites and a lot of magazines have been my window into the "big show" so to speak for the last few years and I have noticed major drop off not only in show attendance but buzz for…

Red Faction Guerilla probably has one of the most ground-breaking peripherals in the video-game industry currently, and I don't think it's getting enough hype. What it has is Geo-Mod 2.0, a physics/destruction engine that enables you to turn any building in sight to rubble any way you want, and not only that, you can rebuild it with time-defying awesomeness! None of this is trashed in multiplayer. Destruction actually plays a huge part in the multiplayer, allowing you to make your own doors, blo…
