RIP Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert is a name synonymous with movies. The most prominent figure in American film criticism, Roger Ebert's work both with The Chicago Sun-Times and his television partnership with Gene Siskel became the official film barometer for the vast majority of the country's cinema-consuming viewers/readers. Today, the film…

Skyfall (2012) Review

Rating-Better Than Sex!!!

Right from it's thunderous opening and its majestic title sequence (Preformed wonderfully by Adele), I could tell that this was an evolved James Bond, I was in for a treat of a film that could be an easy contender for best film of the year, for me at least.…

Three for Three: The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Argo and Sinister Reviews

For once, the actual author of the story set out to make his version of the story on film the definitive one! Not only that but Chbosky manages to convince anyone that his version of the story and its characters in this film should be the only version to be made. It's one of those rare films that…

The Vow Review

With all of the strikes that the film has against it from its very conception, it still manages to surprise the most cynical man of romantic films. It has Channing Tatum in it, who is clearly not the best actor working in Hollywood. The marketing campaign for this film is marketing it like a Nicholas Sparks movie when it's not actually based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. It's "inspired or based on true events" even though the various details between the real life story and the film's…

South Park & Cynicism

I wanted to briefly (or as briefly as I can) talk about the most recent episode of South Park. I know that a lot of people have started falling out of love with South Park. Many have said that the show has become "uninspired" and "is repeating itself". I'm no stranger to this; I've felt that this last season and a half hasn't been that great... and it appears that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone know this as well.

For those who haven't…

Movies that are said to be overrated, that I believe are not

Movies are always met by praise, and panning, but at times there are some films that are so popular, they live a life of their own. Some films such as "Transformers" is one of those films, where the average crowd loves it immensely, but us movie buffs, and film critics just think it's a piece of crap. Some movies that are not like "Transformers" that are actually considered good films are also sometimes met with the same right as "Transformers" and are…

What Makes a Great Villain?

This idea for a blog has been in my mind for a long while so I thought that I might as well write it now. There has always been a question in my mind and that is what makes great villains? Frankly, there are so many aspects that make the list of great film villains who they are so I thought that we should look at some villains who have been listed over the years as being some of the greats and see exactly what makes a great villain so great, evil, despicable, and yet entertaining and…

G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: August 7: Movie Season 2009.

3.8/5

Boom Boom Pow. Action, Action and more action. No plot needed here, because there isn’t much. The movie is based off of the 1980’s cartoon and Hasbro action figure line. The movie takes place in the not to distant future where a government weapons manufacturing company M.A.R.S. has created nanotechnology weapons capable of eating away threw any object. While being transferred and sold to NATO, The US Army who is… Continue

Armond White: "Worst Critic Of All-Time?..."

To be honest, I'm not really sure if we have the right to say so.

After visiting 'Rotten Tomatoes' to check and see how the buzz was boosting up for 'Star Trek', I came across a review that got well over 150+ comments. And why is this? Well, because it's (of course) a negative… Continue

You need to check this guy out.

There's this guy on YouTube called the "Movie Preview Critic." What he does is review movie trailers and decide if the movie is worthy or unworthy.

The channel is really good, interesting and important. You just have to go watch his videos!

Carlye, where do you get all your wonderful (screeners) toys?

Ghostwriter asked...

I'm a bit confused here...so what else is new?

When you were talking about the "for your consideration" DVD's you get, are you a member of the Academy and you get to vote or do the studios send these out to the critics to generate buzz for their films?

The answer to the furst part of the question is a resounding NO. We here at spill are not members of the Academy, nor can we vote. The four of us, however, are all members of an… Continue

Don't You Wish You Were A Film Critic?

Almost 14,000 of us are here at Spill.com. Why? Because we LOVE movies. We don't just like them, we love them. We're not the average audience that goes out to watch a flick on a Friday night. We cause the hype, we talk about movies, review them, and we constantly look for any movie-related news to get us through the day. I don't know what the ideal job would be for you, but wouldn't you love to be a film critic?

The thought of just writing your own reviews, or making video reviews… Continue

ASK CARLYLE: How the #*$% do I get YOUR job?

Aggie 23 asks: If I were looking to get into your line of work, how would I go about it? I don't think I need to ask you if you enjoy what you do....I'm assuming this is your job? I just love film, love the industry, and I am looking to get involved.

We actually get this question a lot - both written and in our daily lives. And since we get it so often, I figured I would answer this in an ASK CARLYLE so I can simply link to it in the future. To be truthful, there is no simple… Continue
