New Details On '21 Jump Street' Sequel

One of the biggest surprises of last year was the rather hilarious '21 Jump Street.' Phil Lord and …

Parody 'Monsters University' Promotional Video

I'm still not real comfortable with the idea of another Pixar sequel that doesn't have the words 'Toy Story' in front of it, but nevertheless, I dig this piece of viral marketing for 'Monsters University.' What Pixar has done is take those obnoxious community college TV ads you see late at night and re-purposed one…

Open Discussion: Is it better to get hands on experience, or to learn the basic fundamentals first?

Growing up I always had a passion for writing and the arts, and by arts I mean everything from music, to singing, to acting I love it! And respect it as a craft, as a I would for someone sharing a passion for knowledge and being a scholar. So naturally I've always aspired to be a sort of renaissance woman of the arts, I wanted to sing, act, write..especially write. Writing is my first love after all, and deciding at a young age that this is what I wanted to do. As I got older I would…

Larry Crowne Movie Review

Or as some people call it "The new film released this weekend that's not Transformers 3. Like a cross between "Back To School" and the show "Community" comes Larry Crowne.

MY COLLEGE PAPER ON ANALYZING THIS SITE

For about the last three or four years I have been a relatively active member on the website Spill.com. Spill.com is a film focused website, that host a multitude of information on current movies including audio reviews, some of which get turned into their signature animated movie reviews that which are always comedic and given one of their unique ratings. They also on a weekly basis release several podcasts. What makes this movie stand out from other movie sites…

Ambition Sucks

Chances are that if you are reading this, you are smart, well smart enough to read at least and that's all I'm asking for at this point. With your intelligence, you probably also have a ton of ideas. Some of these ideas may be good, while others may be total crap, but they're all ideas nonetheless. If you happen to think one idea is really good, or maybe you just happen to like on idea in particular; then it might be a good idea to pursue it.

Yet as simple as that sounds…

Putting Together a Convention

First, you need a guiding interest. What is your convention about? This will determine who you will be asking for sponsorship (money), targeting, and what you will be spending a lot of your time organizing around. In many ways this is like writing a research paper. If the topic does not interest you beyond the realm of mortal pleasure, stop now.

The guiding interest is somewhat separate from your goal, but it is closely linked. You've just decided you want to get a whole bunch of… Continue

On Leaving College

This semester is my last as an undergrad. I have been in college now for five years and I am still not near the finish line. I will soon be handed a diploma and walk the stage, only to descend into a year-long credential program. There, I will no longer talk about the romanticism of De Forest, or the Bi-nationality of Cooper's Hawkeye. I will not ponder the captivity narratives of the white women in frontier America, nor the significant differences of the slave trade between native Africans and… Continue

How to Make Indy Comics

It is a lot of fun.

When I'm not in class, teaching, writing, getting tipsy, or on set, you can probably find me talking to someone about The Anthology. The Anthology is an annual comic book comprised of usually 9-10 one shots made by members of Chico State's CBC (Comic Book Coterie). Our first book only had five submissions and was a poor show of the potential talent available at our campus. The second year was much better. We drew from many more artists, and we had our first… Continue

Academia Nuts : The importance of knowing

So tomorow I have my final college exam. The big one. The one where everything I learned for these past 4 wonderfully mediocre years is being put to the test. And I am sure that I will be asked the same inane question I've been asked before every single exam I have ever taken in those same 4 years. Somebody somewhere, some dim witted classmate, will come up to me and ask me with a voice that is somewhere between worried and… Continue

"Smart" Celebs

With Get Smart opening this Friday, I was originally going to make a "Celebs Who Need to 'Get Smart'" list, but after thinking it over, I realized said list would contain 90% (or more) of Hollywood. So, here’s a list of celebs that have already gotten "Smart." Yes, I’m aware of how cheesy the pun is…
