Berserk, considered THE Dark fantasy manga for a reason, it is highly beautiful fully realized world based on WESTERN mythology. The world fits in a few ways in anime tropes (The main character carries around a humongous sword, another lead is a pretty boy and could be mistaken for a girl, and there's a plucky sidekick, also a guy who always looks like he has his eyes closed) but it's very western made feeling, so much so it's like if Alan Moore did a graphic novel take on Lord of the rings…

Mind you this is good in general, not better then original or a genre changer but just a good movie that I believe are worth mentioning:
