As a straight, white male I don’t think I can claim that I have ever been oppressed. In fact in the entire history of my people you might have to go all the way back to the Roman invasion of Britain to even attempt to make a claim of oppression and a fairly flimsy claim it would be too. What hardships our people faced when the Romans brought us roads, sanitation and mosaics. To be fair though, they did call us wild savages and laughed when we painted our faces blue. That had to sting. Bastards.…

I am an all round geek. A jack of all geek trades and a master of none and one of the facets that makes up that geek whole is political geekery. I first started to become interested in politics around the time that George W. Bush came to power as the president of the United States and so my interest has always been with American politics, which is far, far more interesting than our rather underwhelming British system, and in particular the dark, shadier side of the political scene.
It should be…

Today sees the beginning of a new recurring segment on Cinepub, Last Year In Film. The concept is fairly simple, watching and reviewing all the Oscar and Razzie nominated films of 2008. And I do mean all of them. It’s going to be a massive undertaking and I hope that I can manage to pull it off before the end of the year. With that in mind let’s begin with the backwards-aging, Gumpesque saga known as The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate…

One of the bad things about my theatre job is that I end up falling behind on entertainment news outside of weekend box office numbers. I just recently learned about the death of Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse for my generation.
According to an article by the Associated Press (
click here), Allwine died at the age of 62 due to diabetic complications. His wife, who is the official voice of Minni…

The recent Oscar contender makes its debut on Blu-Ray Home Video

It can always be difficult to capture the essence of a historical figure in a biographical film. How does a film maker cover a massive time line and display the cultural significance of some…

Recently I have seen people saying how they won’t be watching the Oscars now that The Dark Knight wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. The poster above is a mock-up of the official 81st Academy Awards poster made by someone that obviously believes people will not be tuning in now that a…

Or not but it can seem at times that the overall population of the internet is composed of 14 year old boys...or people who act like them. Not that I have anything against the hormonal pimple machines, I currently own one and they can be pretty cool. I mean lets face it, in the old days fathers and sons didn't have a whole lot in common but nowadays a 15 year old like my kid Ian and a forty year old like me can. I mean we both love horror movies, sci-fi, comics, video games and general geek stuf…

I love a good biographical film. I've read a few great reviews by fellow spill members about the
Notorious movie and I cant wait to see it and from what I can gather, like the actor playing
B.I.G is great and really embraces
B.I.G's personality as well as looks.
Making a biographical film is easy for a hollywood actor(ess). Get a similar haircut, have the accent on lockdown…

Here are just some fun movie facts that I thought would amuse some people.
The Longest Film Ever Made
The longest film ever made according to Yahoo.com is
The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple, which clocks in at 27 hours long. The film was never shown in its entirety due to its length. Instead it was split into 18 features that were shown from 1928 through 1931. Even though the film was split, it was produced as one major film as a whole. I wonder if anyone here at Spill can…

The Dark knight is a Cinematic abortion! It ran two and a half hours too long! Heath Ledger is a horrific actor ; All Ledger does the entire movie is act like the pretty boy,and skip around (on stilts) awkwardly dispensing puns in a garish costume that makes queen amidala (of one of the best movies ever made) look subtle! The Action Sequences are dark and incredibly difficult to see; often times a fight or chase will stop just for batman and the joker to make small talk about they're day.
The f…

Everybody's been jumping out of their seats stating that Heath Ledger's monumental performance as Batman's notorious rival, The Joker, deserves consideration to be a contender for Best Actor in a Supporting Role by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. And I'm not going to debate with anybody about that. As film critic Richard Roeper states "It would be an upset if Ledger wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and it won't be a maudlin sympathy vote either - he creates a Joker th…

It's hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Batman in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins other than
Christian Bale. Although it almost didn't happen! In an interview with Details magazine, Bale admits that he almost didn't make the film because the batsuit made him so claustrophobic.

This was brought up by my female film teacher a while ago. I just remember the opinion just now. In any dictionary I find it says that an actor is a "person" who act in stage plays, movies, shows, etc. While "actress" it says that its a "woman" who acts in plays, movies, shows, etc.
Doesn't that just kind of suggests that a woman is not a person?
