Yes, a man who was never nominated for an Oscar despite a career spanning over thirty years is finally going to get one.
Some of you might be asking
Who is Roger Corman and why should I care? Well, douchebags,
Roger Corman is a famed film producer, director and writer... of cheap exploitation fli…

As a straight, white male I don’t think I can claim that I have ever been oppressed. In fact in the entire history of my people you might have to go all the way back to the Roman invasion of Britain to even attempt to make a claim of oppression and a fairly flimsy claim it would be too. What hardships our people faced when the Romans brought us roads, sanitation and mosaics. To be fair though, they did call us wild savages and laughed when we painted our faces blue. That had to sting. Bastards.…

I am an all round geek. A jack of all geek trades and a master of none and one of the facets that makes up that geek whole is political geekery. I first started to become interested in politics around the time that George W. Bush came to power as the president of the United States and so my interest has always been with American politics, which is far, far more interesting than our rather underwhelming British system, and in particular the dark, shadier side of the political scene.
It should be…

Today sees the beginning of a new recurring segment on Cinepub, Last Year In Film. The concept is fairly simple, watching and reviewing all the Oscar and Razzie nominated films of 2008. And I do mean all of them. It’s going to be a massive undertaking and I hope that I can manage to pull it off before the end of the year. With that in mind let’s begin with the backwards-aging, Gumpesque saga known as The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate…

Wow, I watched this movie on my always handy Charter On Demand for 5.99 (WO!) in HD and I was completely in aww of the movie. Maybe I'm one of the few that thought it was an amazing film but I will stand by that bold claim. First off, Anglina Jolie, who I thought was no…

Is this thing on?
Oh, here we go. OK, first Spill blog!
Just thought I'd weign in on the Oscars and give you my predictions before tomorrow night's celebrity ass-kiss-a-thon.
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke
Best Actress: This one could be a toss-up between Anne Hathaway and Kate Winslet... I think it's been a long time coming for Kate though.
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress: I like Marisa Tomei here, but I've been hearing good things about Penelope Cruz, too.
Animated F…

Recently I have seen people saying how they won’t be watching the Oscars now that The Dark Knight wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. The poster above is a mock-up of the official 81st Academy Awards poster made by someone that obviously believes people will not be tuning in now that a…

Update: Seems that
Necronomicon Ex Mortis has shown that while the paper is wrinkled, the text does not wrinkle with it. That closes it for me. I think it's fake. Though if the results are the same, it's either a lucky fake or somehow someone really did get the info. Interesting nonetheless.
Original Post follows:
This can't be possible...can it? Through Twitter I've come across this document...treat it with a grain of salt, but is this po…

Sunday is almost upon us, so here is my final predictions before the ceremony. Feel free to share your opinions too.
-------------------
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire. Oh man, I LOVE this film. This was just such a huge surprise because not only was it a crowd pleaser, but it's one that was incredibly well made. On a technical scale, the artistry and talent that is part of Danny Boyle's career have never been better. On an acting scale, the performances are all universally great. They take…

OK, now that that's out of the way, the obvious: that was my first, but hopefully not last, blog post on Spill.com. As a West Point cadet and member of the Spill moive community (albiet somewhat innactive), I felt obliged to disseminate this information.
I bring up my innactivity somewhat apoligetically. As a cadet in my first year at the academy I generally find my free time to be at a premium and I prefer to spend it making up for lack of sleep. When not doing that, I'm watching movies on Hul…

are ahead of the curb, and everything you see...and in this case,

Fuck the Academy.
I was looking at the nomination list for the Oscars and I see many problems.
1. How the fuck did "the Reader" get a nomination for Best Picture instead of "the Dark Knight" and "Gran Torino"? I never thought the Dark Knight was worthy to win Best Picture but I and 99% of us Spill Members believe it was worthy for a goddamn nomination. "Gran Torino" was an amazing film, that put a cherry on top of the sundae that we know as Clint Eastwoods acting career. I'm not saying "the Re…

Wise words of Korey Koleman: "Lemme save this sh*t!" Yeah, I was working ever so hard on this when I pressed a wrong button and made it go kaplunk!. Remember! Save!
With only one more day of 2008 left, I looked back and thought about the year. The good things, the bad things, films... Ahh, yes, films. Did Hollywood dish out a shmorgisbord of goodness, or was it a pile of poo? Well, it turns that 2008 wasn't just good, it was excell…

Award season is just around the corner, and I'm asking myself the same question I asked myself last year: What makes a good film?
Is it the acting, the direction, the design, or the replay value? There are so many factors that can make a good movie that I wouldn't know where to start. What do these big time critics at these award shows consider when they cast in their ballots for nominations? What are they looking for when they want to give out those shiny golden awards?
In my opinion, the big…
