Steven Lara posted a statusThis set of home release reviews comes a little later than expected, since I had originally planned to have this up over the Bank Holiday Weekend. But no matter, here they are! Coming towards the end of the cinematic releases from 2012 that recently released on Blu Ray, there is nonetheless some quality to be found in them. And indeed one of which, just might sneak…

A rather odd pairing of movies for reviewing purposes this week, but so is the weekly manner of searching through the video store shelves for interesting things to check out. And 2012 continues to offer some great films for me, which should translate into some equally interesting discussions. No need to wait around, let's go straight in and have a…

I think it is fair to say that Disney's live action movies of late have been... underperformers to say the least. Most have been reasonably good, but never good enough, or what you wanted to see from such huge budgets. Just a lot of glitter, but not very much in the way of soul. But this movie may have finally broken the trend, and in a big way too. Which from a movie…

We're coming towards the end of 2012 (in whatever shape or form that may manifest itself to be) and these could well be the last home release Blu Rays I check out before 2013. It rounds up to a total of around 50 films I have seen this year, so can these make a significant impact on the list? Well the answer to that is both yes and no, and not out of…

And so here we are once again, back in the familiar and wondrous world of Tolkien, and one that I am very happy to visit once more. As far as epic fantasies go, the original Lord of the Rings Trilogy is hard to beat for scale, adventure, and a fantastic conversion from word to picture. However this weekend we are about to set out on a…

Once again, it's time for me to delve into the week's newest home releases, all three of which I missed out on seeing in the cinema. And wow... this blog post's films are pretty special. You probably heard them discussed very well on this week's "Remote Viewing", so you will know already what I have to say. But nonetheless, I'll give my viewpoints on the matter, despite them most likely being a bit more... "simplified".…

And so we movie into 2012's summer season of animated titles, which at many times can be a bit of a mixed bag to say the least. Today I made the decision to check out The Lorax, and although it wasn't as mortifying as "Happy Feet Two", this certainly wasn't what I was hoping for at all. Let's take a look.
So as you probably know, this is…

Before I begin my review for this hotly anticipated movie, it feels only necessary to first send my deepest sympathies to the families, and survivors of the horrific shooting at a theatre in Aurora. It was not what anyone would wish to be connected to the movie, and is a tragedy that should never have happened. Despite the great loss the level of…

It feels like it has been longer than it’s actually been since my last movie review, it's good to have a new film to talk about this weekend. And what bigger current release is there to talk through than Spiderman? It feels like despite everyone's opinions on the trilogy, we all have a certain fondness for this superhero, I think he's one of the most…

Four movies reviewed!
Last weekend saw a lot of new releases finally hit the shelves here in Ireland, and so it was the perfect conditions for three days of movies, along with my trip to see Prometheus. (you can find my full review for it…

Two movies from this year to check out tonight, and you can probably guess which one perked my interest more to see. Well, to be fair, I also rented War Horse today, but that film's far too long to see tonight (it's already midnight here) so that will wait until tomorrow. Still, there should be plenty here to discuss, so let's dig right…

I had intended on seeing this last week on its pre-screening, but due to the London Spill Party, that idea got squashed. And I had to wait until I returned before returning to the cinema to see if the hype had been worth the wait. Because not since... Toy Story 3 almost, has a movie been met with such anticipation, has it all been worth it?…

*Spoiler Free review*
I know, right? How can I cover this movie and keep away from spoiling it? It's going to be a tough one, but I am doing this with the simple reason that going into this movie cold makes for one incredible experience. Something that comes along so rarely in the horror and comedy genre. Critics and…

Well, I missed the starting gate on this one, I should have seen this last weekend, but because of some other things that popped up, I saw it tonight. And many, many reviews and comments have been shared of the film already, so it's rather hard to say any more really. Especially when this has already become a…

Romantic dramas, never the genre that gets you excited, is it? Even for girls, it's more of a "comfort movie" than something to get immersed in for its cinematic qualities; it's a very tricky type of movie to pull off on the whole. And The Vow.... falls right into that group as well.
But, there is a bit to talk about, so I'll give my two…

Another one of the movies to get a 2012 release in Ireland, and with Oscar season upon us, this is one film I've been interested in seeing for quite some time now. So, is it worthy of its praise, or will this be another "Oscar Year" film that's worth the look once? Well, that's what I'm here to find out.
Directed by Alexander Payne and…

If you are following these reviews, and more importantly, following the new episodes of Friendship is Magic, you will have seen the internet blow up a little from today's latest show. The reasons of which I may go into later, is quite a spoiler, so you might want to check it out before…

*groan of discontent* Not a good start to my reviews of 2012, this one. I was hoping my first review would be something great like The Artist, but sadly no. The choice at the cinema this weekend was rather drab, so reluctantly, I went to see the latest alien invasion flick. Of course, I went in with a level mind, ready to give this film a chance, did it succeed? No,…

It is expected, with any TV show you watch on a regular basis and follow with a clinical level of attention, it's only a matter of time before you come across one that... isn't bad, but slips slightly below your expected standards. It's not a bad reflection of the show, just an indicator that you are on the other side of the swing, so to speak.
This was how…
