Jack Reacher - Movie Review

Right off the bat Tom Cruise has quite a bit going against him with Jack Reacher. Fans of the novel are quick to point out that the first thing we learn about Jack Reacher is that he’s described as 6’5″ and over 200lbs of solid muscle. Tom Cruise in contrast is 5’7” and arguably weighs no more than 170lbs. On top of that, people generally dislike Tom Cruise for a variety of reasons; he’s a “crazy…

Braingasm Podcast Episode 85: Bagging on Baggins

In this our 85th episode of the show we are having a fireside chat with Melissa (@melissacocetta).

We began as we do every week by spoiling our thoughts about the movie that they are about to spend the next hour and a half discussing.

As you may have guessed this entire episode is devoted to a discussion of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It was going to be a Braingasm Reviews but the discussion went into too many different…

Movie Mania Roundup - "A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas", "The Expendables 2"

We're coming towards the end of 2012 (in whatever shape or form that may manifest itself to be) and these could well be the last home release Blu Rays I check out before 2013. It rounds up to a total of around 50 films I have seen this year, so can these make a significant impact on the list? Well the answer to that is both yes and no, and not out of…

Movie Mania Roundup - Arthur Christmas, Chernobyl Diaries

It is time once again for me to cast an eye at some of the recent home releases, or to put it more simply, those films that I missed out in the cinema. And once again, I have taken two titles from completely different ends of the spectrum, so you at least can't blame me for not having variety. With that, let's have a look first at Aardman Studio's festive…

My Boogie Nights Review

If I haven't already made it abundantly clear by my Donnie Darko and Frost/Nixon reviews I love period pieces done well, and this one's no exception. It's also easily in my top ten favorite films ever made.

What stands out about this film is EVERYTHING; it's a near perfect marriage between a new and initiative film maker and an awe inspiring all star cast. Lets first discuss the prior.

Paul Thomas Anderson is a true autour of cinema. From Boogie Nights to The Master he had… Continue

My Fargo Review

Fargo Review

Oh what a film Fargo is; while its not my favorite film by The Coen Brothers (GASP); I do hold it in VERY high regard. What I love about this film as well as most Coen films is they make high concept films into simplified easy to digest cinema.

That's NOT to say that they don't have their intellectual as well as philosophical and arguably for some of their films metaphysical merit. Take this film for instance what are the motivations of these characters? What… Continue

Help me fund my Low Budget Comedy Feature

Hello!  I'm an independent filmmaker located in Nova Scotia, Canada.  I wish to film a bully comedy in my small town community.  The movie is sort of a parody of the revenge genre mixed with the kind of children's entertainment of today like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies and films of the 80s.

I ask for your help. Below is a link to my Indiegogo page where you can find out more information and…

My Dream Team: One Fan's Idea for the Cast of a Justice League Movie

Movie Mania Roundup - Snow White and the Huntsman, American Reunion

Well, my trips to the cinema remain very sparse lately, (blame the lack of funds and all that) but I did get the chance to check out some more recent home releases this weekend. But will either of these films get the thumbs up? (You can probably guess the answer to that already, but let's check them out anyway, shall we?

First up is the second…

Movie Mania Roundup - The Raid, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists, Headhunters

Once again, it's time for me to delve into the week's newest home releases, all three of which I missed out on seeing in the cinema. And wow... this blog post's films are pretty special. You probably heard them discussed very well on this week's "Remote Viewing", so you will know already what I have to say. But nonetheless, I'll give my viewpoints on the matter, despite them most likely being a bit more... "simplified".…
