Sploich Reviews Beetlejuice (1988)

Beetlejuice was the second outing for director Tim Burton, and here they allowed him much more freedom to do what he wanted to do. It proved to be a great idea because the result was a very amusing and very offbeat comedy about some very dark subjects.

Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis) have recently died in an accident and are not sure how to deal with the new family that bought their home. They…

Legend of The Galactic Heroes - Anime Review

With regards to personal entertainment one of my key principles is to search for things that deserve attention, things that will inspire me and things that are cool but go unnoticed by other people. originally posted on Moniqueblog

This movie is a maze of film noir proportions, but it's not a film noir. It's marketed as a women's movie just because it's set in the 1700s, but really, anybody who likes intrigue can watch this film and enjoy it. And having superb actors like Glenn Close and John Malkovich doesn't hurt, either.

The film, based on the 18th century novel Les liaisons dangereuse by Choderlos… Continue

Running on Empty (1988)

Was not expecting what I got.

After they bomb a napalm plant during the Vietnam War, Arthur and Annie Pope (Judd Hirsch and Christine Lahti) are fugitives, never able to settle down in one place for too long. Years later, their son (River Phoenix) falls in love with a young woman (Martha Plimpton) and must decide whether to keep running with his family or stay put and risk never seeing them again.

Now I know what your probably… Continue
