Top 5 Making-of troubled-movie-production books

You've heard stories about the making of movies, how some go smoothly (i.e. a Clint Eastwood production, under budget usually and with no hassles) and some that start shaky and then have some bumpy patches, only to become a success (Easy Rider). But others just turn out to be madness from the start, more or less. Over-budgets, egos inflated, Hollywood gone to excess with shooting for the moon, and sometimes a director and his bosses just not seeing eye to…

M.Night's Last Airbender and why I like it

I will admit the movie is badly shot, written and directed, but it wasn't a page for page adaption, it dared to stray from the original series' very overdone plot, which, hell I love it for. It did drastically different things from the series from which I liked. because if I wanted to see page to page adaption, why not just watch the series?

Let name name off why I like it:

Why would Aang instantly see Katara as Den mother? A Den Mother is: the female of the team who will comfort… Continue

I just noticed all the Movie titles by M.night in the title of this blog post.....lol

The Last Airbender while critically panned has Domestically grossed 130.5 million dollars, with a 150 million shooting budget that seems to fall short, but overseas it has made 94.9 million(225.4 million Total) SO FAR, it still hasn't been fully released. It still has to be released Poland, Finland, Austrilia, Norway, New Zealand, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and finally, Greece(which will be Oct 28).… Continue

Underrated review: 84C MoPic (1989), with a comparison to Rambo 1stBloodPt2

Watching 84 Charlie MoPic right after watching Rambo: First Blood Part II is like watching a difference between a Republican and a Democrat. You get to see all of the mindless, brawny stuff, the nonsense and the mayhem, and in the end everything is supposed to turn out…

Couch Potatoes Anonymous–Observations and Commentaries from the Emmy Awards

We are live (or at least we were live a few hours ago) from the red carpet as one of the more pretentious aspects of celebrity and our voyeuristic affair with them begins–the obligatory ‘Live from the Red Carpet special. Now I know from a fashion standpoint, there are probably a lot of women (and some men) out there are interested in what their favorite star is wearing and what have you, but a hole hour devoted to it I just can’t understand why you cut it down to a half hour and spend another… Continue

FINAL UPDATE: Outstanding Comedy Series + Final Thoughts

And thus, the show comes to an end with Modern Family winning the emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Let's see, there were 26 awards during the show and I got 13 right so that's 50 percent. Yeah, tonight wasn't my night.

So, closing thoughts on the ceremony itself. Mostly entertaining, Jimmy Fallon was pretty solid as a host. I don't think it's as good as last year's ceremony with Neil Patrick Harris as the host. But you know what, I was only disappointed with one thing,… Continue

EMMY UPDATE 14: Miniseries, Made For Television Movie, & Drama Series

I'm back, baby. The Pacific won for Outstanding Miniseries, Temple Grandin won for Outstanding Made For Television Movie, and Mad Men, for the third year in a row, took home Outstanding Drama Series.

The last award is coming up, Outstanding Comedy Series. Which means my final update of the night is coming up as well where I'll also talk about my thoughts on the awards show itself.

Hellraiser: Inferno: The Best Sequel By Far

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c3/Hellraiserinferno.jpg

I have been a fan of the original Hellraiser film since the first time I saw it back when I was a kid. Its visuals were really gripping and creepy, the atmosphere and tone of the film was quite

menacing, and the Cenobites themselves were quite interesting on their

own. Oh sure, the Cenobites transformed into Hellspawn as the franchise

continued to spurn out sequel after sequel, but the original…

EMMY UPDATE 13: Directing For A Miniseries, Movie, Or A Dramatic Special/Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie

Well, I'm certainly not coming back from this.

For Outstanding Directing For A Miniseries, Movie, Or A Dramatic Special, I had Barry Levinson for You Don't Know Jack, The winner was Mick Jackson for Temple Grandin.

I did catch up with Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie with Al Pacino winning for You Don't Know Jack.

Four more to go with Outstanding Miniseries next. I have The Pacific but if Return To Cranford wins, I might get pissed.

EMMY UPDATE 12: Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or Special/Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or Movie

Well, I've bumped it up to 8 right out of 21 so far.

I picked Adam Mazer for Outstanding Writing For A Miniseries, Movie, Or Special for You Don't Know Jack and I was right.

Then, Claire Danes won for Lead Actress In A Miniseries or Movie for her role in Temple Grandin.

Hopefully, I can make up with the last 5 nominations. Up next, Directing For A Miniseries, Movie, Or A Dramatic Special, and Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie.

EMMY UPDATE 12: Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie

David Strathairn won for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie for Temple Grandin. Once again, I was wrong as I had Patrick Stewart to win in that category.

So, now that makes 6 out of 17 for me. Basically, I'm sucking right now on this.

But hey, at least Jewel's song that she created for the In Memoriam segment cheered me up.

We're heading towards the homestretch, folks and next up is Lead Actress In A Miniseries or Movie.
