VeVe - Is it true the night is darkest just before the dawn?

Profile Information

Hometown:
NYC
About Me:
I'm a NYC girl born & raised, & I have an extreme love of movies & the cinema. I watch & watch & watch & can not get enough of movies, & still have so much more to see. I deeply enjoy reading & researching the background information, trivia, tidbits about movies & the characters portrayed in them. While I do not believe I am educated enough to be considered a film buff, I do believe I am extremely passionate about movies & can some day claim that title.

One of my favorite past-times is watching a movie opening night with a sold out theatre and feeling the energy of a really enthusiastic crowd. And I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT MISS the trailers before the movie, this is almost more important to me than actually seeing the film. For this reason alone, I have to have a plan when hitting the theatre opening night- I need seats in a specific section, my beverages and snacks in my hand & time to get comfy in my chosen seat at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the commercials. I am methodical about this & feel it makes me a happier movie-goer (and you don't want to see me when I get angry, lol).

I am open to any type of genre when it comes to films & will literally watch almost anything, but I am a bit of an action/thriller head. One of my guilty pleasures are movies some might say are mindless guy fare- i.e. any Steven Seagal film (especially Out for Justice, Hard to Kill and Under Siege), Roadhouse, Point Break, etc. It appears Mr. Seagal has been VERY busy in the straight-to-vid market, so I have a lot of catching up to do on my boy in the next couple of months!

I also really enjoy documentaries- the last really good one I saw was American Drug War: The Last White Hope. It basically covered the Iran Contra scandal and the beginning of the crack epidemic in the U.S. and included interviews with former CIA agents, Freeway Ricky Ross (believed to have started the crack epidemic) & various other people somehow connected to drugs either through direct involvement or through family members whom have been addicted.

I am a recovering gore hound- from the period of 5 to 15 I was hardcore into horror movies (the bloodier the better). I can no longer handle excessive amounts of gore/blood/torture violence or really sadistic storylines/scenes in movies. These are the only types of movies I do not purposely gravitate towards. I think it might be because I was exposed to all of that shit at such a young age, it kind of ran it's course. I saw Basket Case for the first time at about 5, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at around 6-7 and was full-fledged into the genre by 10 with movies such as 2000 Maniacs & the Faces of Death series (although many of which were fake death scenes).

I also really enjoy watching the originals of movies & comparing them to their remakes. I know a lot of fans do not appreciate remakes & think Hollywood should stop recycling, but I do not have a problem with this process personally (granted at least some effort was put into the film). Some remakes that I think passed the originals in Fright factor alone include the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Fly & The Thing. So if anyone has any suggestions of originals versus remakes, feel free to throw those titles right at me.

To sum it up I really am easy to please when it comes to movies b/c I just love watching them so much. I rarely find a movie I really despise, & when I do you will know it. I've listed some of them here, and that list will probably never get too long. I am a Netflix member (3 at a time) and am an active member of the IMDB (which is one of my favorite sites). I found The Spill by chance surfing for movie information, and it looks really fun and refreshing thus far. To be honest, when I'm reading about movies online, researching movie info, posting on message boards, etc. I can get lost for hours on end. With that being said I think I need to end this rant here....... and pls feel free to suggest movies if you like!
All Time Favorite Movies:
Black Christmas (original), Halloween (original), Halloween II, Point Break, Lethal Weapon 1, Lethal Weapon 2, Lethal Weapon 3, Braveheart, The Dark Knight, Purple Rain, any 80's teen movie (especially if it has Molly Ringwald in it), Mad Max Trilogy, Indiana Jones franchise (and I enjoyed the 4th installment), American Psycho, April Fool's Day, The Goonies, The Lost Boys, Saturday Night Fever, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, Vertigo, Rear Window, Adventures In Babysitting, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter Is Dead, Nightmare On Elm Street, The Machinist, Running Scared, He Knows You're Alone, Labyrinth, Legend, most early Seagal films, The Hitcher (original), Equilibrium, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Troy, The Little Mermaid, Dumbo (fav Disney movie), Oliver & Company, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Deadly Friend, Chopping Mall, The New Kids, Beyond the Mat, The Gift, Children Of the Corn, The Mist, The Fog (original), Terror Train, The Bad Seed, The Descent, The Diary Of A Mad Black Woman, The Brave One, Alice Sweet Alice, Carrie, Terminator, Predator, The Legend Of Billie Jean, Nightbreed, The First Power, Return to Horror High, 10 to Midnight, Fright Night, Hard Candy, The Prestige, The Bad Seed, The Twilight Zone Movie and I'll add more as I remember......
All Time Worst Movies:
**Suture (my mother convinced me to go see this at the Angelika [my NY ppl will know this place] under the assumption is was some dark film about a serial killer....well suffice to say it wasn't, she feel asleep and I was stuck in my seat for the duration of the film watching this garbage).

Photobucket

**Draghoula (man gets bitten by a Vampiric rat and turns into a cross-dressing blood-sucker- enough said. Sad thing is this came out in the 90's and it SCREAMS 80's cheese-fest).

Photobucket

**The Forgotten (really, what was the point of the experiment?!?! Julianne Moore is so much better than this). I noticed on the video cover the tagline was, "The Biggest Jaw Dropper Since the 6th Sense"- YEAH RIGHT!

Photobucket

**Black Christmas Re-make (90 minutes of my life I WANT BACK!!!!).
These chicks deserved the ax.....so the speak, hahaha!

Photobucket

**Do You Wanna Know a Secret? (this is some straight-to-tape shit right here, not even straight to DVD lol.....when the main character disappears 2/3rds the way through the movie and you don't know why, but better yet you don't care, then this is probably a really bad movie....and YES this is a REALLY bad movie).

The Strangers (my first blog post here on Spill)

This is a blog I posted on another site I belong to back when the movie was in the theatres, I thought I would share it with the Spill community since it is so great here. Please leave your feedback, even if you do not agree with my thoughts.

The Strangers

I saw The Strangers over the weekend and I have to start out by saying this was a movie that truly prided itself on the build up of terror. Most of the "horror" movies that we have be inundated with lately have…
