lol your right about Jason. I never thought about the fact of him dying as a child just to come back as a huge dude.
As far as Keanu Reeves playing in COWBOY BEBOP. I think they did it because of how close he looked to the character, but I have to say he will need to have more flare for this part if he is to pull it off properly or the directors need to direct him better. But lets take a look, shall we?
and then Keanu Reeves actual COWBOY BEBOP shot.
For the look only... I cant think of anyone closer
in the mean time enjoy this :)
The sequels to Candyman were so bad that I even forgot that there were any sequels. lol As far as I'm concerned, they never existed.
I think the true question will be "will the studio LET Barker up the ante, or if not, can he get funding elsewhere and then do whatever the heck he wants?" You know, I only like gore when it's mixed in with comedy, like in Evil Dead, Dead Alive or Return of the Living Dead (funny how they all have "dead" in their titles...). Otherwise, it just get kind of...repetitive? It's like with this trend of French horror movies that are all blood, gore but with the dumbest stories or plot turns you ever heard (like High Tension or Inside). I can't stand that crap, frankly.
Since you're a big fan of the Hellraiser series, can you tell me the name of the little box? That's my number one trivia question and no one has been able to answer it. I'm sure you can, even without Googling it. haha!
I had no idea there were Hellraiser comics. What are they about? Do they go further into the Cenobites' back stories? I'm just starting to get into comic books, though I had to take a break from them because of school. The first one I read was Watchmen, then I read a couple of Preacher ones (loved them!), then 3 Boondocks ones (I'm a die hard fan of that show and the comics didn't disappoint), Maus I and II (that was also brilliant) and...well, I forget what else. I took a few of the LEOG recommendations, basically. Got any more to suggest?
I am not sure if I am going to check it out or not yet.
Number one reason is because to me, all new remakes of films seem to suck.
Best example is "the day the earth stood still".
Great CG and all and the actors in my opinion did just ok.
But when you take a classic, make sure all the previous people that made it and saw it are dead because then it will be a new thing with no questions asked if you know what I mean.
While the legacy has promise to carry this movie.. I have my doubts until it gets released.
I am more of a sci-fi guy and as an example of this.. I have my doubts about the new star trek movie.
Although again we shall see.
You know, I do think Hellraiser could benefit from an update. I saw it recently and although the gore is still very convincing, the styles and the special effects in the ending are cheesy-looking and didn't really age well. But it is a well-made movie for its time. It's also a pretty unpleasant watch for me. I never really wanted that flick in my collection because it is one of those rare movies that get to me by making me want to throw up.
I've never read a Barker novel because they just seem so dense. His books are huge and I'm not into the ultra-descriptive type of horror books like Lovecraft's stuff, for example. However, Candyman is easily in my top 10 favorite horror movies of all time. I'd love to read Books of Blood just for comparison and in the hope to find another story that is just as compelling. I know that he's also a painter but I didn't know he was a sculptor. Are his Tortured Souls Models something he sculpted himself? Or did he paint them? I think they will make more movies out of his stuff only if the Hellraiser remake becomes a huge success. His stories aren't very mainstream or appealing to teenagers and sadly, that's the market they are aiming for when they finance horror flicks.
I'm only a recent N.E.R.D. fan. Seeing Sounds is the only album of theirs that I've listened to and it took a while for me to really get into it. But now I love it so I'll probably look into the rest of their stuff eventually. I'm always late with catching up with artists' entire discography. I discover albums 5 to 10 years AFTER they were huge hits, when all the hype has died down. So when I get excited about music, my friends always tell me "Goddamn, that came out ages ago! What the hell is wrong with you?" LOL
Yeah, I thought of the movie Elephant too, when I saw Polytechnique. I hated the shit out of Elephant. It was really, really, really slow and I did go "WTF??!" at that random shower scene. I didn't relate to any characters and I failed to see the point in that entire exercise in filmmaking. Didn't the Black guy try to play "hero" and then got shot for it? I did not get what that movie was about at all. I'm glad I watched it on dvd so I could fast-forward with subtitles still on.
I think Bowling for Columbine was the best example of school shootings because they showed real footage of it from security cameras. No movie can top that for shock value so they shouldn't dwell on these images to try to elicit that reaction. I wanted to know more about the victims and about the aftermath within the community but you rarely get that with movies on the topic. However, I did find that in a book called "Hey Nostradamus" by Douglas Coupland. It starts off with a school shooting but then goes into the mind of the main victims of the tragedy and the people around them. I thought it was a brilliant book but I know it might not be to everyone's taste.
I'm boycotting the new Friday the 13th because I've never been a fan of the original and because I'm sick of shitty remakes of shitty films. So I guess we disagree about the Halloween and the TCM remakes, although I did enjoy the latter the first few times I saw it. Not so much at all anymore, though I still love the original no matter how many times I see it. The last time I watched the TCM remake, I couldn't sit through it because it just felt...empty. Like it was all about style and there was zero substance. The plot is SUPER contrived and only geared to doing horrible things to seemingly nice, attractive kids. They kind of missed the point of the slasher genre, which is supposed to be "cautionary tales" about the dangers of drugs, sex and other immoral behaviors. Those who get killed should at least deserve it a little, and only the "pure" young woman gets to live at the end.
I've never been to Lake Louise but I'm sure the view from my apartment isn't as great as that. lol
There's snow in North Carolina? Really? Wow, you learn something every day. :)
Over here, I'm just freezing my ass off. Stupid winter. I guess I should take up snowboarding, too. I should change my relationship with snow and ice. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, too.
I'm very well, thank you for asking. Had a pretty lazy weekend. Went to see a movie called Polytechnique, which is based on a real school shooting that happened in Montreal in '89 where 14 women were killed by this madman for being "feminists" because they were studying to be engineers. There was a lot of controversy about that movie even existing because of the impact that tragedy had, and continues to have but personally, I don't think any topic is too taboo for a movie. Unfortunately, the movie seems to be more about shock value and stylish shots than anything else. Ever see a movie like that?
I'm glad you like my movie selection. I'm sure I forgot tons more that I love and watch over and over again. I'm all about character study-type horror movies.
