Profile Information

Hometown:
Chicago, Illinois
About Me:
I’m the Mad Crazy Ill Alchemist.
A proud and silly black man in his America, I am a musician(bass, guitar, vocals, songwriter and arranger) and armchair philosopher. An information junky, I am fascinated with the media and its cultural gestations as it churns out the human condition road show. I am a pragmatic liberal thinker; I have my BBA in Accounting and my MBA in Finance.I am also a musician, so I am an overeducated, unemployed rockstar. I know I have a blog here, but check out www.inblognegro.blogspot.com. That is were I blog the most and I will try to set up a feed here for you to read. I am also in the process of setting up my music myspace page that will feature music and my process for creating music, forming bands, music philosophy and the like. Again I will try to link that blog here. Thanks for stopping by, enjoy the pictures and the post. Join the League Lounge for more information.
If you want to show your love for the LEOG or for me, you can surprise me with a thank you from my Amazon Wish List. Just search for Greg the Bass Player.
All Time Favorite Movies:
The Godfather I & II, Lock, Stock and Two Smokin’ Barrels, Snatch, Sin City, Pulp Fiction, Sweet Sweetback’s Badass Song, Man on Fire, Blade Runner, Love Actually (I gotta have some heart action here..), Empire Strikes Back, Heat, Goodfellas, The Departed, Layer Cake, The Limey, Wonderland, Boyz in Da Hood, Do the Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Apocalypse Now, Training Day, State of Grace, Mystic River, Spinal Tap, Running Scared, Midnight Run, Once Upon a Time in America, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Glengarry Glen Ross, Heist, Unforgiven, Old School, Anchorman, Richard Pryor Live in Concert…on and on to da break of dawn….
All Time Worst Movies:
Leonard Part 6. My mom actually let me and my sister play hooky from school to watch this terrible movie. Hey man, it was the 80's and Cosby was the king of TV. Plus his comedy film was pretty funny (at least it seemed so at the time...)
Favorite Actors or Actresses:
All the usual suspects.

But I have one movie I want to see. Ethan Hawke has to finish the black actor trifecta. He has to do a movie with Samuel L. Jackson. He has been the white whipping boy turned to bad ass with Denzel Washington (Training Day) and Lawrence Fishburne (Assault on Precinct 13). By the way, when are we going to have the movie with the 3 of the brothas acting head to head to head. Like a black "Heat".. I am willing to help with the script.

Dear Greg

I know you probably get this a lot, but where can I download the LEOG theme?

Hey Greg,

Thanks once again for the FF invite. I had a great time playing. Good luck in the playoffs with the Bears. Oh and HAHAHA 0-2 vs the Knicks. :p

I want to say while I am grateful for the invite to FF, just a word of advice for next season you might want to chop off week 17 and keep it 16 weeks of competition. In the finale, against Mr. Burn Notice's squad...there were key sit outs @ the QB and RB position. Pretty much having a finale in week 17 is a battle of who has the best bad team starters and maybe if you lucked out like I did with Peyton Manning in a meaningful last regular season game.

Please don't take it as a criticism, it's just a suggestion.

Your fellow sports fan,

D.d.

So I just discovered that you're black, its kinda like when national geographic told me Jesus (not the mexican watering my lawn) wasnt white, shocking until you put any educated thought into it, and when it comes right down to it, it really doesnt make a difference, anyways I just had to say I enjoy your orations on the league

Hello Greggroy (... Just felt like saying that in my head )

I'll cut right to the chase, I'm slowly becoming a huge Podcast addict, and there aren't enough Spill podcasts to quench this newly found thirst, I try the new podcast here and there but none of the ones I've listened to have the same chemistry the Spill podcasts do and I end up being bored rather quick.

And on one of the TV dudes you mentioned that your really big on Podcasts, so what interesting podcasts you reccomend I check out, also I hope the podcasts you reccomend are playable on the podcast's site... not really big on dowloading on iTunes and I'm one of those "sensible" high schoolers.. so time is a big factor for me, I can't really be listening to Let's Do This length podcasts every day.

Kind sir, thank you very much for this and for your recurring role on LEOG.

Hey Greg,

Lookee here, the Giants and Bears clash.

I'm looking forward to it. It's week 4, a quarter of the season will be finished and to coin a phrase, "They were who we thought they were..." seems to apply. It'll be a good test for the G-men. Simply put, they either grow a set and perform to expectations or waffle and fuel Bill Cowher rumors.

I thought Chicago boy Michael Wilbon was cautiously optimistic regarding the Bears talk. He's not drinking the Kool-Aid yet (unlike annoying Jets fans). He even boldly counted the Detroit game as a loss and cited the # of penalties in the Packer game. Agree or disagree?

Personally, I think in this age of the NFL it's almost normal of a team to look unbeatable one week and beatable the next. Football is a fickle game and W-L record is all that counts at the end of the day to get to the post season (where anything can happen).

Lastly, this MIGHT be too early but if you guys are going to do a basketball fantasy league, I am soooo in.

Take care,
D.d. aka Ron

I see you're also a James Jamerson fan. He's been a huge influence on me, even with growing up in the hardcore punk scene. You're a good man of wealth and taste, Greg.

I would like to thank the league for passing on Jahvid Best, a player I watched in college and knew would be a steal for the Lions.

The Monsters of the Midway looked really good against the Cowboys. As much as I hate to agree with ESPN, Cutler finally looked focused. The defense really took Miles Austin out of his game. I'll be very intrigued when the Bears play Minnesota because Chicago or Green Bay could deliver the stake to a struggling Viking team.

Have a good week Greg,
D.d.

My 2008 Music List.

Greetings!

My list of music in 2008 is not as complete as it should be. I am just beginning to get my musical expertise back. Not as a player (I have always been a good player-bass, guitar, vocals, saxophone, etc.) but as a music connoisseur. I am not a great critic because I'm not objective enough. I have certain prejudices as music creator. That being said, there are music websites that I go to for music information.

Last Saturday, Driver F, Heavy Mojo and Fishbone with Pics!

First of all, I would like to really thank everyone for their good vibes and well wishes for my pending nuptials. I hope everyone is having a good holiday season, even in these rough times. Keep the faith in what brings you joy and all will be as it should be. I really believe that.

I missed posting last week because I went to the Spurs game with a good friend of mine that just lost his father. It was a nice bonding trip, cause he needed to rap a little about "what does it all mean?"… Continue

Mitch Mitchell: 1947-2008

Mitch Mitchell died this week. His incredible drumming behind the amazing guitar playing of Jimi Hendrix is some of the best in rock history. Some of my favorite tracks are:

Manic Depression-His circular, mood altering playing makes this song an audio realization of a breakdown.

The Wind Cries Mary-His rhythmic shadowing of Hendrix's solo.

One Rainy Wish-He goes from trippy soft time keeping to a funky back… Continue
