I mean, technically it IS a remake of the 1960's version, yet it was still right behind the play on Broadway walking away with a ton of awards, so the audience was ripe for another movie. Why they decided to do "limited runs" then slowly add more theaters, I don't know. I personally would have dumped it out on around 1000 screens for it's "limited" part, THEN a week or two later put it out on 3000 screens.

But, that's the way they handle things in Hollywood that I still haven't understood. And while I think it's odd that it didn't get handled that way, I'm probably going to piss off a LOT of people with 2008, because Gran Tourino was handled the same way, and might not be on that list.... I'm not that far ahead. lol

At 2:26pm on August 11, 2009, MDS said…: The Producers opening weekend was a limited run of 6 Theaters which got expanded to more each week. It officially never had what would be called a "Opening Weekend" as it grew in both theaters it's shown in, and popularity until it became a "wide release".

I don't hold anything for or against the movie, just it's "opening" didn't meet the 500+ theaters. If you go back over 2004, you'll see that I also left off Million Dollar Baby, which had a similar situation of small "opening" and then took off.

I just liked the Disney version more because it's the one I'm more familiar with, and I have private memories about the movie that makes it important to me that the Live-action version would never be able to touch.

BUT... I thought they did a lot better with the movie than I thought they would, and for that I'm glad.

Jackie Earl Haley as Sinestro and a Superman cameo?

Ain't It Cool News is reporting an interesting rumor that Jackie Earle Haley, who played Rorschach Watchmen and stars as Freddy Krueger in the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street, is the front-runner to play Green Lantern villain Sinestro.

Not only that, but the site says that Superman may make a cameo appearance as well!

Sonic the Hedgehog Fan Film Trailer

In 2011, to coincide with a certain blue hedgehog's 20th anniversary, one man along with several talented writers and animators, will release his dream project. A fan film based on the classic Sonic SatAM cartoon series. Hopefully, it'll be better than the recent new Sonic games, and even be as good as the upcoming "Project Needlemouse". Here is the trailer for all of you to watch...enjoy!
