I think that the District 9 vs Avatar thread sums it up best when I said:
"Avatar is what "sells" when it comes to Sci-Fi. Lowest common denominator with the simple (Basic/old) story and filled with CGI visuals."
"District 9 is what Sci-Fi is about. Taking social commentary and problems, presenting them in a way that make people actually pay attention to the problem and re-think there real world situation after watching the film."
I guess my biggest thing about Avatar was people appearing as though they wanted to treat Avatar as though it was the same type of movie as Meet the Spartans or Disaster Movie... and that's where I drew the line. Avatar was an entertaining film despite it's flaws and short-comings, but by no means was it the worst thing ever made.
Oh and you really should stop watching anime. Now that's some old bullshit.
Hell no I don't think that Cameron is a "great writer", which is just one of the reasons that I wasn't EXPECTING any great writing in Avatar. But you have people trying to say that they hate the movie because of some "bad writing", and I can't help but stop and ask them; "What did you expect, Shakespeare? It's Cameron for crying out loud, can you point to the time that he WAS a great writer in the last 20 years?" .
Ohhhh man. That Fun, Watchable video for Star Trek was great.
you don't have to watch this buddy its your own freewill. About me being easily amused seriously bro get off your high horse of ultimate opinion your the just some dude who sees a bandwagon against the mainstream to jump on you have no real opinion of your own you just go against the mainstream cause you think its cool. "I don't care what you say it is exactly as Korey said" Korey's been the one saying what I have about it not affecting the old "Dragonball" when hes addressed it on ACOCO. How am I contradicting myself first of all even if I was saying its a good thing to be cliche thats not even contradictory thats my opinion it would have been if I said its a bad thing then say its a good thing but thats not what I said at all. What I said was that they had interesting takes on old cliches thats it I'm not saying its a good thing they had them but for the ones they had they tried to change them up which is not contradictory. I don't think you should be so apt to attack this movie its a fucking movie its not killing anyone its just a popcorn movie thats it whether you liked it or not I don't care but the points you attempted to make were way off.
The difference here is I've taken pains to recreate everything good about the originals in style and content, instead of making it hip and glossy for modern audiences. I had in mind that sort of "Devil's Rejects" aesthetic that resembles a 70s b-horror picture.
