you are so right on the money with that call on kickass. it seems so over hyped and is really not done well. im glad someone agrees with me on this.

And on that one I agree. The fact that it was even nominated sort of shocked me. But then again, I should know better than to expect the Oscars not to nominate the movie. Win for effects? Okay, sure I'll agree with that one. But for best picture or best director? God, I hope not. lol

Oh I know exactly what you mean about criticizing a movie when it doesn't have good writing or filled with cliches and stereotypical characters. Even I criticized Avatar for having those elements. But, I was also sort of expecting those aspects to be in the movie because of James Cameron himself.

I think that the District 9 vs Avatar thread sums it up best when I said:
"Avatar is what "sells" when it comes to Sci-Fi. Lowest common denominator with the simple (Basic/old) story and filled with CGI visuals."

"District 9 is what Sci-Fi is about. Taking social commentary and problems, presenting them in a way that make people actually pay attention to the problem and re-think there real world situation after watching the film."

I guess my biggest thing about Avatar was people appearing as though they wanted to treat Avatar as though it was the same type of movie as Meet the Spartans or Disaster Movie... and that's where I drew the line. Avatar was an entertaining film despite it's flaws and short-comings, but by no means was it the worst thing ever made.

Honestly your commentary on my review seems as if your a little too eager to tear up anything positive about this film. I did not see at all how this resembled "Karate Kid" except for the master trainer dynamic but that has been a staple in movies for years or is it because he learns fighting styles in ridiculous ways cause if so we can refer back to "Rocky". With "Star Wars" its just the force, key connection. "Indian Jones" you pulled that out of fucking nowhere I don't even begin to see where your going with this. "It's like how twilight has no real premise exept for excuse for high school kids to make googley eyes at each other" both this movie and "Twilight" had a premise where you liked it or not and "Dragonballs" is basically the same as the show so I'm guessing your not a fan of the show. I'm currently writing a revised draft of a script based on the Blind Dead films of Amando de Ossorio. Not really a remake, more like an unofficial addition to the series (since none of the original films were related to each other)

The difference here is I've taken pains to recreate everything good about the originals in style and content, instead of making it hip and glossy for modern audiences. I had in mind that sort of "Devil's Rejects" aesthetic that resembles a 70s b-horror picture.
