The (not so) Lovely Bones is based on a 2002 novel of the same name, and it's about a girl named Susie Salmon, played by Saoirse Ronan, who is murdered by a seemingly normal neighbor of hers, Mr. Harvey, played by Stanley Tucci. Sigh... I was really disappointed by this movie. I didn't expect much going in — I hardly even knew what the movie was about. But as it progressed, I got hope, thinking that maybe, just maybe, this movie could accomplish something spectacular. Unfortunately, it never did. Sometimes a movie will come along that's hard to pin down, much like this one. The trailers sell it as a potentially raunchy, run-of-the-mill teen sex comedy with an interesting hook. But it's not as Hollywood as it would seem. I'm not quite sure how it happened, seeing as horror is one of my least favorite movie genres, but I somehow randomly found myself watching three different horror movies this week. Those movies were Spanish cult classic [Rec], the ultimate so-bad-it's-good movie Troll 2, and John Carpenter's classic remake, The Thing.
