Asking me who my favorite bands are is a loaded question. A long long time ago I used to review music instead of movies. My collection is...extensive and my tastes...extremely varied. Plus there's stuff that I loved the most of all time and stuff I listen to the most right now. But here, I'll give you a few classics...
DJ Shadow "Endtroducing..."-Shadow was half of the talent on the first UNKLE album and this album is every bit as good if not better.
The Minutemen "Double Nickels on the Dime"-People always refer to these guys as punk but that's not really accurate at all. In fact, their sound was entirely unique and wholly addictive and extremely influential. This is their double-album masterpiece.
Whiskeytown - "Stranger's Almanac"- While I am not normally, strictly speaking, much of a country music fan, Ryan Adam's first band's amazing albums just blow me away. Listen after listen, some of these tunes still raise the hairs on the back of my neck.
Electric Light Orchestra "Time"- One of the first albums I ever bought and I probably still listen to at least one of these tracks a day. An amazing rock-opera by one of the most entertaining prog-rock bands ever. It always amazed me that this album wasn't better known.
The Arcade Fire "Funeral"- This one came out of nowhere, completely did nothing for me on the first listen. Over time, I started hearing this more and more from strange, unexpected friends and bar jukeboxes. Soon, it had completely infected me. These guys are completely brilliant and it just took me a little while to work my brain around the learning curve of what they were doing that was so vibrant and original. Still one of the heaviest disks on my personal rotation.
Bad Brains "Rock For Light"-Still one of the hardest, fastest, tightest and most completely frakking amazing punk rock records ever made.
There, that should give you an extremely small sampling of some of the albums that have had a hold on Cyrus. Spend some birthday money.

And Clive Barker is definitely worth reading if you're a horror buff.
