EMO Man of Steel

I've seen the new trailer for Man of Steel and it looks better than the last but, I still don't like this "DARK" Superman. Superman is not a "DARK" character. In the trailer he even says the "S" stands for hope. I don't see hope in this trailer. I see only see "DARK" depressing EMO Superman. In the video below Grace Randolph pretty much gives my same thoughts on this trailer. I agree with her 100% Take a look.…

Good theory, better than mine in fact, I didn't post anything in that blog the other day but I for one am actually happy to hear your opinions. :)

Okay, but the next Cap film is based off of Brubaker's Winter Soldier storyline. That story did not have a light tone. That story was pretty dark. Since the next movie is based off of that story, shouldn't the tone of the film be considerably darker than first? You constantly talk about how comic book movies cannot deviate away from the comics. Therefore the next movie should be darker in order to be accurate to the comic. Therefore making Captain America The Winter Soldier lighter in tone would be inaccurate to the comic.

Hey Toe Knee, you seem to be a man in the know or at least with a good set of eyes, is it me or does the new Man of Steel trailer seem to suggest that Clark Kent's cover is blown at an early age and that Lois Lane follows Kent until she comes across him in costume? So in this movie he has no secret identity? Just a thought and I'd like your opinion... and I know trailers mislead at times! :)

I was expecting to see something like the Brubaker comic. I think it's fair to say that Cap's popularity increased significantly when Brubaker started writing him. I was expecting to see a movie in the style of Bubaker's Cap. The movie obviously didn't want to go anywhere near the tone or the maturity of the comic and that makes me sad.

I wouldn't have used Hydra in the first film. I would have saved Hydra for the second film and portrayed them as a more modern version of the Third Reich. A fascist terrorist organization hell-bent on world domination. I would still have the Rubix Cube of Death in the first film, but I would not use it to create laser guns and laser shooting tanks. Just using it as a power source for a weapon of mass destruction would have been fine.

Hugo Weaving's performance was too over the top for me. The make-up just added to his ridiculous character. I would have made him deformed like a burn victim and had him as a close confidant to Hilter or some high ranking Nazi officer. He can still have his own secrets and goals, but I would have been a little more subtle about it. His true motivations and goals should have been revealed at the end of the film when he betrays the Nazis, not in the beginning of the film.

I was personally disappointed by how they handled Bucky. The actor was fine, but they hardly used him in the film and I felt nothing when he "died." Brubaker wrote an interesting backstory for Bucky and the film didn't use any of it.

Does Cap have science-fiction elements? Absolutely, but I would have had these elements in the background. The science-fiction is present, but it's not the focus of the film. The focus should be Cap's role in the war. Brubaker turned Cap and Bucky into the guys that went behind enemy lines and carried out secret operations to thwart the Nazis.

There were many things missing from the movie that were part of the comic. The comic written by Bruabker was ignored. It's because of these missing things that made the movie inaccurate to the comic. I can only hope that the next film is more respectful of Bubaker's work.
