Review: The Oxford Murders

If you are looking for a thrilling murderer mystery, this is NOT your movie. I am saying this for two reasons:First of all, not only is this movie quite convoluted with side stories that are not at all related to the murder, but every non-American character in the movie is so over-acted, it would seem that Elijah Wood is the only sane person around. There just is no telling who the culprit may be.Secondly, at heart, this, movie is not really about murders, but it is actually an ongoing…See More

Pembroke Dock
About Me:
I study Physics at a British university. I also like movies.

well, if you really want to know more, feel free to check out my youtube channel
http://uk.youtube.com/user/ASKaPHYSICIST
All Time Favorite Movies:
Willow
Die Hard
The Producers (the original of course)
Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring,
Moby Dick (1956),
The Mission,
Schindler's List,
Freaks,
Knocking on Heaven's Door,
Scent of a woman,
Thank you for Smoking (finally an american film that doesn't tell people what to think, but to think for themselves)
The Lives of Others,
Hero,
An Inconveniant Truth ( I actually take a course on the science behind Global Warming and the movie is 'mostly' quite accurate),
The Gods Must Be Crazy ,
The Oxford Murders (funny, if you're a maths/physics geek)
Einstein and Eddington
All Time Worst Movies:
Donnie Darko,
Most films starring Will Ferrell,
The Departed (No way in hell these people pass as Irish),
Oceans 12,
Die Hard 3-4,
National Treasure,
300 (and all other movies featuring the Mel Gibson's epic quote 'FREEEEDOM' followed by mindless slaughter),
Star Ship Troopers (I was rooting for the bugs),
Beeing John Malkovich (coming up with completely ridiculous random crap ≠ beeing original)
Moulin Rouge (if we stopped portraying such immature ideas about romantic love, teenage pregnancies could be reduced by 30 percent)
Favorite Actors or Actresses:
The primary quality I expect to see in an actor is that, if his name is on the cover of the movie, I can rely on it being a good movie (or at least passable).

Edward Norton,
Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Cate Blanchet,
Viggo Mortensen,
Jim Caviezel,
Richard Harris (As much as his death saddened me, I wish it could have happened before his involvement in the Harry Potter Series)
Liam Neeson
Keanu Reeves
James Earl Jones
Joseph Fiennes
Favorite Directors:
Steven Spielberg
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (director of lives of others)
Ron Howard
Tod Browning
Paul W. S. Anderson (director of Event horizon, also went to my university)
Mel Brooks

Review: Einstein and Eddington

When I first heard about this movie, I assumed it was just another unexciting documentary about the scientific achievements of the last century. But no, this is a proper drama with a great cast and a compelling plot, based on true events of course. This film tells the story of two great physicists, Albert Einstein (Andy Serkis aka Gollum) and Arthur Stanley Eddington (David Tennant aka Doctor Who), and their struggle to develop a new theory of… Continue

The Numerous Ratings of Spill

As pointed out by Cyrus in the recent Spill review of Sex Drive, there are not 5, but at least 16 different ratings that can be given by members of the Spill Crew. I have tried to recall all the different ratings that I have heard over the years and presented them here, highest to lowest:

Better than Sex with all of the Spill Cew's Mothers! (An unusual rating given by Co-Host to The Dark Knight)

Better Than Sex! (first given by… Continue

5 Realistic Science Fiction Movies

Well, there have been many science fiction movies that stood in strong contrast to the reality as science would predict, including every single Star Wars movie.

However, According to a recent article by New Scientist, there are at least 5 movies that get the science right, namely:

2001: A Space Odyssey

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Alien

Gattaca

Solaris

The article is definitely a worthwhile read…

Statistical model predicts Academy Award winners

According to an article in the magazine New Scientist, researchers from the university of Oregon and the university of California have developed a statistical model that can be used to predict Oscar winners with an accuracy of at least 70% (no kidding check it out http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19726494.800-statistics-can-predict-oscars-winners.html)

Heheh, you doin' good?

If you like videogames there's now The loading bar bs and e-mail show and a call in show too, "happy hour" where they record an hour of playing a videogame talking about stuff, pretty funny.

Dude, been years!

So youre a Physicist. OK been meaning to ask one of you guys a question.

When i was a wee boy I put my handheld AM radio in the microwave(why I don't know) but I did notice that IT STILL WORKED.

So my hypothesis is. If radio waves can get in, then can't microwaves get out?

lol yeah I did, with a little disapointment. I donk know, I think it was because I don't know the comics well but it seemed to drag on a bit. What you think of it?

Nip Tuck the tv series? lol man its awesome. My side is forever quiet, a little too quiet lately. . . Must be building up for Easter weekend?

Yeah, do you follow Nip Tuck?? She was AMAZZIIINNNG in season one. What's new in your side of town?

Hmmm I guess this is true, but I think she was too drugged or perhaps didn't know that her best friend was dead. During the whole 'pursuit' you only see her again towards the end when her father saves her on the ship. Right there she would be too drugged and/or too emotionally overwhelmed to realize anything other than the rescue of from her father.

Then we see her again at the door of the singer's house, this could have taken place months after the ordeal. Thus getting over what has happened and moving on? I think the mother (famkee janseen) is so hot lol

Yeah? How would you have liked to see the ending?

I really want to see watchmen but something else keeps coming up. I went to see Madagascar 2 with my lil sis which was pretty funny.

Hey Physicist.

Ive just finished my exams as well as my 21st party. Exams were hell! I sometimes wonder whether its even worth it being a student. I wonder why females dont study physics as much??
