And yeah, Singer's Superman was a tough one for me. I liked some parts and hated others. As a whole I was disappointed, but not so disappointed to say that I hate it... just glad I saw it.
That with Batman, Nolan (Both of them) and Goyer were actually pushing to take the job. They actually wanted to do the movies. Hell, they did sign Christopher Nolan to 3 films after all, so you KNOW that he was eager to take the movie only if they would give him three films to do.
But with Superman, it doesn't feel like Nolan (Both of them again) are really wanting it. It's more that WB is pushing it on them, and basically saying "Here, do this one too." And that is where I'm worried that things might not go as well as they did with Batman did. When they wanted to do the Batman movies, they sort of had a plan, and a concept of what they wanted.
Now that Superman is being pushed on them, do the Nolans really WANT to do the movie, or is it because WB is just paying them XXX amount to take it on?
All I know, is that I want a GOOD Superman movie, and I hope that whoever takes over Superman can deliver a GOOD one.... but at the same time I want the guy who directs it to WANT to make a Superman movie too. We saw with Batman and with Iron Man, when the director WANTS to make the movie it works.
Like you said, as long as it doesn't follow Superman Returns, I'm happy too. I didn't like that particular story line, nor the way that the character was handled. And while I think that Routh is an okay actor (Neither horrible, nor great... but just okay), he was sort of given a role that didn't fit him and he did as good as he could with what he had.
And in a way, I guess that's the proper way to say it in regards to the director (Whoever it may be). That WB is going to give them this particular Superman movie, and they are going to have to make it as good as it can be with all the restrictions placed on them.
1) Court ordered movie to start production to avoid further legal issues. So it's being "rushed" by WB.
2) Origins story for Superman would mean paying additional royalties to people. So a full "Reboot" may (or may not) happen.
3) Can't continue the Superman Returns storyline as that is Bryan Singer's property due to the writing credits. So continuity is a problem.
4) Routh's contract has expired, so another round of casting..or negotiations to get him back. That is of course only if he WANTS to come back after the reception of Superman Returns.
5) Spacey's contract has expired, so same as above. And of course, that's only IF they want to include Luther.. which a lot of people are getting tired of seeing in ever Superman film.
6) Christopher/Jonah Nolan... is this the right fit for writer and director for a Superman character? (Momento, The Prestige, Dark Knight, Insomnia... do these have the "feel" for Superman? Because they will have to go a completely different direction than their prior movies, which might or might not work.) So while talented film-makers, are they really the right people?
It's all calm around 3:00-3:25 but say at 3:26-3:27 I want to abruptly drop in another shot from above how would i do that?
